George Earl McDonald

March 25th, 2016

McDONALD, George

Our husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, George Earl McDonald was born April 1, 1929 and died peacefully at home on Sunday, March 27, 2016 in Didsbury, Alberta. He grew up in and around Didsbury where he was a local businessman, and an integral part of his community. He volunteered his time to many local boards and organizations.
He will be remembered by everyone whose life he touched with his kindness and generosity of spirit.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Louise (nee Bateman); his children, Carol (Barry), Craig (Barbara), and Grant (Lorraine); his brother, Orval (Betty); and all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A Private Family Service was held. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to a charity of your choice in George’s memory.

Messages:

My sincere sympathy to Louise, Grant, Lorraine and all the family. George was first a trusted insurance agent, then a political ally and partner in saving our active services at the Didsbury Hospital, a wise advisor, then a good friend and conversationalist in all manner of philosophical, political and strategic information and trivia that no one else cared to pursue- but we enjoyed thoroughly. We have not seen each other much in the last couple of years, but I will always carry fond memories of our friendship and discussions. Dorothy Moore

I was so sorry to hear of George's passing. He (and Louise) were so kind and generous to me in my teenage years in Didsbury. The door to the house (and barn) were always open, and we enjoyed many hours of riding and playing instruments (badly) . 'Mr. McDonald' even took Carol and Sherry and me to the drive-in theatre to see The Sound of Music when it was first released. I never forgot that. Such good memories... Please accept my sympathy and know that I remember George with the fondest of memories.

Please accept our sincere sympathy at this time. Both Kay and I worked for George and your Grandfather when the business was ran out of McDonald's Mens Wear store. We have many fond memories of George. May he rest in peace.
