Christina "Tina" McKay

McKAY, Christina “Tina” (nee Coptin)
Tina McKay passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 16, 2016 at the age of 94. She was born in Harrod, Manitoba on December 27, 1921 and came to reside in Calgary with her family at the age of 4. Here, she set up roots, working at Union Packing, raising a family and later working at Carltons Cleaners. Tina was a long-time member of the Ramsay community and belonged to St. Anne’s Parish where she had also attended school. Tina always made a memorable impression on everyone she met and will be missed by all who knew her. Tina resided in her home on Scotsman Hill for over 60 years before moving into assisted living at Tudor Manor in Okotoks, where she spent the past five years. Tina was a loving mother, friend, good neighbor and hard worker. She never let a time go by where she would tell you that you were doing something wrong and that you should do it her way. Didn’t matter who you were, you just did it wrong. She was the first person to send over an angel food cake or loaf of sandwiches to a neighbor’s house when needed or just to share. In her years of retirement, she spent many joyful hours with her grandkids, Kyle and Kerry; and great grandson, Cole, filling them with great food, fond memories and covering them in the latest knitted fashions.
Tina is remembered by her loving family, son, Ray McKay (Lynn); daughter, Sharon Olsen; grandson, Kyle Olsen (Rachelle); granddaughter, Kerry (Pat); great grandson, Cole Harding; sister, Pearl Tongs, brother, Joe (Pat) Coptin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Tina was predeceased by her husband, Cecil McKay in 1972; sister-in-law, Olive Coptin; brother, Alex Coptin; brother-in-law, George Tongs; brother, Johnny Coptin; and sister-in-law, Sylvia Coptin.
We would like to thank the caregivers at Tudor Manor for taking such good care of mom; the doctors and nurses on Unit 68 at the South Health Campus for the care, support and dignity shown towards our mom and family. Also, the numerous family and friends for all their support, kindness and caring.
A Celebration of Tina’s Life will be held at the Ramsay Community Hall, 1136 – 8 Street SE, Calgary, AB on Thursday, October 20, 2016 between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm. Cremation has been entrusted to Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Services, 12 East Lake Way NE, Airdrie, AB.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Tina’s memory to the charity of one’s choice.

We would like to express our deepest sympathies to all of the family. The family may or may not remember us. Pat Bukowicki and Don Bukowicki. My mother Nellie Oleksiuk and Tina were the very best of friends. Mom lived just a few doors away from Tina on the main drive. They saw each other often and went to St. Anne's church together a lot. Mom passed away five years ago and Tina came to moms funeral. It was so nice to see her there. May she rest in peace. Once again our deepest sympathy to the family.
