STEWART, Duncan William
October 4, 1925 – June 25, 2016

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Duncan passed away peacefully at the age of 90 years after a 6-year battle with lymphoma at the Prince of Peace Harbour in Calgary, AB on Saturday, June 25, 2016. Duncan leaves to mourn his loving wife, Marjorie; sons, Bill (Shelley), Greg (KJ), Robby (Tracey); grandchildren, Nikki (Kristin), Ashley (Dan), Cade, Zak and Koby; great grandchildren, Duncan, Sander, and Nathan; as well as two dear sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Stewart of Dunvegan, ON and Fran Nelson of Vancouver, BC; and his niece, Darlene Stewart of Ottawa, ON. He was predeceased by his brothers, Ian, Sander and Murdo (Evelyn); and his parents, Lachlan and Sarah Stewart. Duncan was born in Glengarry County, Ontario, where he grew up with his three brothers, helping out on the farm. Work later took him west to Alberta and Saskatchewan during the late 1940’s to work on the harvest excursions, where he developed a love of the west. Duncan’s career aspirations took him overseas in 1972 including jobs in Algeria, Spain, Singapore, Indonesia and Yemen acting as Drilling Superintendent for Westburne International Drilling in many challenging remote locations.

A Memorial Service will be held at Airdrie United Church, 212 – 1 Avenue NE, Airdrie, AB on Friday, July 8, 2016 at 1:30 pm. Cremation has taken place.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Duncan’s memory to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, AB Division, 2020 – 10 Street NW, Calgary, AB, T2M 3M2.

We would like to sincerely thank the staff and administration at the Prince of Peace Harbour for their wonderful care provided to Duncan and for their support of our family. We would also like to thank Dr. Balogh and the staff at the Tom Baker Cancer Center.

Messages:

I'm so sorry to hear that Duncan has passed away. I worked with him in South East Asia and have good memories of him. I'm sure you'll feel his loss. God bless. Dan

Dear Bill / Shelley, Our deepest condolences is extended to you and your family for the lost of your Dad. We are keeping you in our thoughts and prayers in this difficult time. Regards Doug / Anne

Dunc was lovingly endeared by my boys and I as "Grampa Dunc". His warm, loving, caring disposition affected all that had the privilege to know him and he made everyone feel like family. He had a sparkle in his eyes that lit up when his boys or grandkids were around. I remember a Christmas night at the Stewart home in Airdrie; it was celebrated with food, fun, family, and much laughter (probably because of the Kareoke machine). Holding you all in my thoughts and sending you much love. Shirley, Shane, and Kyle

Dear Marjorie and family, we were very sad to hear of Dunc's passing. We always enjoyed our times with him, and know that he will be missed by everyone who had the honor of knowing him. Please accept our deepest sympathy! Ken and Carol Small
