GRAY, Marcella Julia (nee Melom)

Marcella Gray was called home on Friday, March 24, 2017, at the age of 99, from Willow Creek Continuing Care in Claresholm, where she had resided for over 10 years.

Born January 16, 1918, near Stavely, AB, to Louise and Martin Melom, she grew up on the family farm south and west of Stavely with her sister, Gladys and their four brothers. After attending the local one-room school, she went to work for a neighbour lady.

Marcella married the love of her life, John Gray, on July 14, 1940, in Claresholm AB. They had lived in Meadow Creek, Balzac, Cayley and Red Deer Lake, and as a widow, Marcella had lived in Calgary and Claresholm.

Marcella will be lovingly remembered and missed by her brother, Morley Melom; sisters-in-law, Olene Gray, Ada Gray and Nancy Larbalestier;  grandchildren, Liz Robichaud, Nanton, and Robert (Audrey) Taylor, Warner; great-grandchildren, Kassandra Robichaud (Adam) Matchette, Cody Robichaud and Caladin Robichaud, all of Nanton, and Kyza Taylor, Katrina Taylor, Courtney Taylor and Clayton Taylor, all of Warner; nieces and nephews, neighbours and friends, especially by Shirley Toner and her children, Denis and Michael Toner and her grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, John in 1970; brothers, Clifford, Ralph and Jim Melom; sisters, Kathryn Melom and Gladys Kyhn; as well as all her brothers-in-law; several sisters-in-law and a number of nieces, nephews and many friends and neighbours

Marcella enjoyed baking, feeding and fattening her guests, loved driving, taking her friends to appointments all over Claresholm. She delighted in playing cards with her friends, took great pleasure in children, writing many letters to her nieces and nephews. She took the time to teach a young neighbour to print and read, so she “didn't look dumb” when she went to kindergarten.

Marcella really enjoyed music. She and John used to sing Stephen Foster songs as they drove, this was before radios in cars! You have been enjoying some of her most favourite songs.

God Bless
