Helen Louise Lawrence (nee Leinweber), formerly Helen Lord, passed away peacefully with her daughter by her side in Didsbury, Alberta on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at the age of 101 years, to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Helen was born in Lang, Saskatchewan on October 18, 1915 of Reverend and Mrs. Jacob Leinweber. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Linda Lord; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; stepdaughter, Bonnie Lawrence; sister, Ruth Sackman; and extended family and friends.
Helen spent most of her childhood years in Yellowgrass, Saskatchewan. She completed high school at Luther College in Regina with Honors and received a BEd degree from the University of Saskatoon. She was French Department Head at Henry Wise Wood High School in Calgary from1961 to 1980. Teaching French was her passion and went to great lengths to make sure her students excelled.
In 1992 Helen and her daughter moved to Sidney, British Columbia (Vancouver Island) where they lived until Helen was placed in a long-term facility in Alberta in 2012. She was a devout Christian being raised Lutheran and always friendly with a positive personality.
A Celebration of Helen’s Life will be held at the Ascensions Lutheran Church, 1432 – 19 Street NE, Calgary, AB on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at 1:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Helen’s memory to the Tom Baker Cancer Centre, c/o Calgary Health Trust, 800 – 11012 Macleod Trail SE, Calgary, AB, T2J 6A5.
