Myrna Claire Levorson
January 30th, 2017
With much sadness, we announce the passing of Myrna Claire Levorson in the morning of Monday, January 30, 2017 at the age of 81.
Myrna is lovingly remembered by her husband, Lorne; sons, Mark and Greg (Alison); and grandchildren Matt and Emma & Meredith; younger sister, Karen (Ken) Morton; and brothers, Errol Needham and Wayne Needham. Myrna was predeceased by her loving daughter, Darcey 4 years ago.
Myrna was born in Saskatoon to Helen and Clare Needham, and attended Victoria school with her three siblings. She enjoyed basketball and golf immensely and by the time she graduated Nutana College and entered U of Sask, she was an excellent athlete and went on to win many championships in the game of 'hoops'. Myrna was Inducted into the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame for Basketball with her teammates, the Adilman Aces 1959.
Myrna enjoyed bingo and betting on horse races and cards, with the lure of Las Vegas in her mind. Each year, she and "the ladies" would go south to try their winning hands in Blackjack and slots. Myrna became a Blackjack Dealer and Pit Boss at the Stampede Casino.
Myrna was fiercely proud of her children and all her grandchildren, doting on them whenever she could. She had a twinkle in her eye for teaching youngsters and playing games, cribbage being one her favorites. She shared a love of cats with her daughter Darcey. In her quiet time, she would read all varieties of books and watch curling on television. Myrna enjoyed the music of Anne Murray.
In 2011, Myrna suffered a near fatal stroke. In the ensuing months, Myrna staged a remarkable recovery, continuing to share her life with all those who knew her for 5 precious years.
Lorne, Mark, and Greg invite everyone who knew Myrna to attend & share her Celebration of Life at the Varsity Community Association Hall, 4303 Varsity Drive NW, Calgary, AB Friday, February 24, 2017 at 2:30 pm.
Myrna knew that LAUGHTER IS THE BEST MEDICINE.
Messages:
Mark & family so sorry for your loss. I will remember about Myrna that it was easy to have a good conversation with her and the hearty laugh she had. May all your memories of her bring you comfort.
Extending deep and heartfelt sympathy to Lorne and family. A recent memory I have of Myrna is the big smile that appeared when I showed her a photo of her grandson Matt. She was fiercely proud of her children and grandchildren and a part of her fortunately lives on in all of them. Myrna along with daughter Darcey are angels watching over those whom they touched. Love, Laura Lee Levorson
I am so sorry to read this. Karen, I have such great memories of our friendship and love for all your family. Get in touch if you want to catch up! Heather
