LUFT, Raymond “Ray” Henry
Ray was born in Calgary on July 20, 1931 and passed away at Prince of Peace Manor on Thursday, August 31, 2017. Ray was the only child of Henry and Thelma Luft (nee Foss). In his early years, Ray lived in the Eau Claire area of Calgary. During his youth, he became friends with the McLeod family and they considered Ray as one of their own. Ray worked for the CPR as a carman at the Ogden yards for 39 years, retiring in 1986. Ray became interested in wood carving and spent many hours on this hobby, creating excellent, detailed pieces. Ray loved to travel. He went by ocean liner with his friend Johnny McLeod to visit family in Norway. He also made a trip to Turkey with his friends Bill and Ella-Jean Grundison to visit their son, Bruce and family. Ray enjoyed horse racing and owned several thoroughbreds over the last 40 years. He was a passionate animal lover, especially horses and dogs. Ray’s friends were always very important to him and they remained close throughout his life, and in his last days as he battled cancer. All who knew Ray thought of him as a true gentleman.
He will be greatly missed by friends, Jug and Ken McLeod, Gernot and Christa Kiefer, Bill and Ella-Jean Grundison and their children, Bruce and Carla; and relatives, Paul, Sherry and Dan Luft; Shirley, Peter, Zac and AJ McArthur; Rick, Sue, Alana, Barb and Cameron Luft; and Debbie and John Soby. He is remembered by cousins in Canada, Norway and the USA.
As per Ray’s wishes, there will be no Funeral Service.
Ray was one of the kindest people I have ever met. He would always remember my name and any other person he met. He would always say hello and ask how my day was and that's a nice thing. He would take time to have a conversation, He will truly be missed. I wish his family and friends my deepest sympathy. Sincerely Ashley Deep
