LYLE, Alan Arthur
May 19, 1934 - November 6, 2017
It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of our husband, dad and grandad, Alan Arthur Lyle.
Alan is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Colleen; his daughters, Sara Webb (Brady) and Caroline Lyle; and his grandchildren, Rhys and Morgan Gillanders.
Born in London, England he served in the RAF from 1955 to 1957 before emigrating with Colleen and the children to Vancouver in 1964. The family moved to Denver CO in 1966 and Saskatoon in 1968 where he graduated in 1980 with a degree in Geological Engineering at U of S.
Moving to Calgary that same year he worked at Husky Oil, Methanex in Medicine Hat and finally rounding out his career at Bantrell. When he wasn't making his family laugh with his Cleese-like humor he was keeping us entertained with stories of his overseas adventures. He was also a fiercely devoted family man who would walk over hot coals (and even go shopping!) for them. His support was unflinching and he made his daughters and grandchildren believe they were capable of anything. A true Renaissance man, he loved the arts and culture as well as cerebral pursuits, and was also a great advocate for animals great and small. He was a compassionate and kind man who was always there when we needed him. He touched the hearts of many and will be greatly missed by all.
Special thanks to the wonderful staff at the Dulcina Hospice who provided dad with such wonderful care.
A Celebration of Alan’s Life will be held at St. Edmunds Anglican Church, 8340 -34 Ave NW, Calgary, AB on Thursday, November 16, 2017 at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations in Alan's memory can be sent to Dulcina Hospice (www.covenantcare.ca) or the Cochrane Ecological Institute (www.ceinst.org).
