MUIR, Marjorie
Marjorie Muir, née Shiner, died peacefully at home on October 10, 2017 at the age of 82 years. Marjorie was born January 20, 1935 in Dorset, England. She attended Bridport Grammar School and then trained at the London Hospital as a nurse and midwife. She left England for Canada in 1958, where she worked as a public health nurse in Saskatchewan. She married and raised 6 children, first in Yorkton, then in Calgary.
Marjorie worked for 18 years as the evening charge nurse in the nursery of the Grace Salvation Army Hospital in Calgary. While continuing to work full time, she obtained her Bachelor of Nursing degree from the University of Lethbridge in 1993. After her retirement from nursing, Marjorie moved across another ocean to New Zealand, where she lived in the village of Feilding for 10 years before returning to Canada in 2006.
She spent the last decade of her life in Calgary, sharing a home with her son Ian, and travelling to England and across Canada to visit her children and grandchildren. Marjorie was a steadfast, hardworking and loving mother, striving to make a good life for her children. She was a caring friend to many in England, New Zealand and Canada. Her love and humour will be sorely missed by her children Glen (Karla) of Calgary, Gillian (Steve) of Saskatoon, Ian of Calgary, Robin Gray of Calgary and Sarah (Mark) Vanderburg of Toronto, and her grandchildren Ryan, Tyler, Hannah, Gabrielle, Zia, Olivia, Abbey, Alice, James and Farren. In England, she is survived by her sister Gillian Ferris and her cousin Doreen Bennett in Dorset, and her cousin Eileen Brown in Wales. She was predeceased by her son Jamie, her parents William and Dorothy, her brothers David and Robert, and her husband Steve Bartlett, and former husband William Ronald.
Thank you to Dr. Patel and the Palliative Home Care team for their excellent care and support. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
A Memorial Service and reception will be held at the Anglican Church of the Good Shepherd, 408 – 38 Street SW, Calgary, Alberta on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at 6:00 pm.
Messages:
I have so many good memories of laughter with your Mom, when I worked the evening shift at The Grace Hospital during 70's and 80's. All you children were the light of her life. I look forward to meeting with you as you celebrate her life.
Dear Family of Marjorie Muir, My sincerest condolences go out to you as you grieve the loss of Marjorie. She was a kind friend and a dear mentor to me when I was suddenly thrust into the Nursery, having mainly a surgical Nursing career. I'm sorry I was not able to come to her Memorial Service, as I was in Ont. for my Aunts' Funeral. She lived to 104 Years. Thank You Gillean for calling and I hope we can talk soon. Love Ferne Loewen
