James "Just Al" Allan Stickel

January 5th, 2017

STICKEL, James Allan (“Just Al”)
May 24, 1953 – January 5, 2017

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James Allan Stickel, with his loved ones at his side, after a courageous battle with cancer. He will be lovingly remembered by his mother, Mary Stickel; his wife of 36 years, Sharon Stickel (Olenick); his son, Christopher Stickel (Dallas); daughter, Leah Kelly (Chris); son, Kelly Banks; grandchildren, Riley & Jayden Stickel, Natasha & Nicholas Kelly; his siblings, Dauna MacDonald, Sharon VanCise-Ginther, Keith Stickel (Laurie) and Tim Stickel (Debbie); numerous brothers & sisters in law; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins; his “special friend”; and all his friends on and off the big screen. He was predeceased by his father, James Stickel; and his infant sister, Coleen.

Dad was a fun loving, easy going man, who in his youth was an active Christian. As life went on, he wore many hats- a post office worker, a ranch hand, truck driver, fire fighter and fire chief, and his last calling – an actor. He was famous for his piercing blue Stickel eyes, his warm smile, a little “Tennessee Honey” and microwaved rum. He had a passion for travel and enjoyed the sun; he had a very big heart and the best hugs, and he meant so much for so many different people, too many to mention.

A family Celebration of Al’s Life will be held at the United Church in the Valley, 125 Royal Ave, Turner Valley, AB on Thursday, January 19, 2017 at 1:00 pm.

If friends so wish, donations may be made in Al’s memory to the Alberta Cancer Foundation, #300, 1620 – 29 Street NW, Calgary, AB, T2N 4L7.
