WELLAND, Gladys Mary (nee Neiszner)
December 24, 1935 – February 15, 2017
Gladys passed away peacefully in Olds, Alberta on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at the age of 81 years, after a short but courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. She led a life full of accomplishments as a loving wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Gladys will be greatly missed by her husband of 61 years, Doug; son, Terry and his wife, Elaine; daughter, Barb and her husband, Roger; grandchildren, Kohl Strawford (Holly), Rheanna (Kyle Lewis), Mitchell, Serena, Noah, and Victoria; and great grandchildren, Abbie, Mason, and Bailee. She will also be dearly missed by her sister, Elsie Callan (Weyburn); cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.
Gladys was born in Weyburn, SK on December 24, 1935. She grew up on the farm and attended the one room Prospect School, then moved into Weyburn to finish school at the Collegiate. Gladys began her career in administration with businesses in Weyburn before moving to the office of the Weyburn Junior High School from 1968 – 1980. In 1980, she moved on to work for Cambridge Shopping Centres where she managed the Weyburn Mall, the Brandon Gallery, Brantford Lynden Park Mall, Edmonton Mill Woods Town Centre, and Bower Place Mall in Red Deer where she finished her career. In 2005, she and Doug relocated to Olds where her life was centred around family and her involvement in the community through golf, bowling, and the many activities at The Meadows.
Gladys will always be remembered for her kind, giving spirit, positive attitude, and wonderful sense of humour. Her love was her family, and she was a continual inspiration to those around her.
The family extends a heartfelt thank you for the care Gladys received from Dr. Dykin and staff at the Wild Rose Clinic, as well as the terrific doctors and nurses at the Olds Hospital. In addition, we extend our gratitude to Olds Home Care and the Sunrise Encore Centre for their offers of assistance.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gladys’s memory to the Olds Hospital Foundation, 3901 – 57 Avenue, Olds, AB, T4H 1T4 or via www.oldshealthdonations.com

Our condolences Doug and family on the loss of Gladys. Know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. Access Team - Olds (Dani-Lynne, Terran, Ashley and Kelly).
Like a lot of us, we first got the pleasure of knowing Gladys when the Weyburn Junior High opened and she was the Secretary. Then later on, I had the pleasure of dealing with Gladys when she oversaw operations at the Weyburn Square when it opened. A great lady, married to a great guy Doug, who I first met and dealt with when my parents opened up Terry's Repair in 1968. Doug was working at the Weyburn Mills at the time, just across the Souris River from our shop. I would have to go over to the Mills to buy Ski-Doo parts from Doug. I also got to know Doug a little better when we were both members of the Weyburn Lions Club and as well I know their son Terry. Anyway, I was deeply saddened to read about Gladys passing, in the local newspaper. Just like my parents, you will always be missed and never forgotten Gladys.
