Myrna Joan Budgeon
February 15th, 2018
Myrna Joan Budgeon in her 80th year, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 15, 2018 at the Foothills Medical Centre. She was born to the late Paul Smaha and Joan Lewchuk Smaha on May 2, 1937 in Enderby, British Columbia.
Myrna grew up on a farm in Grindrod, BC, and attended business college in Vernon, BC prior to moving to Calgary, AB for employment. As a young woman she spent two years in Ottawa, ON and returned to Calgary where she met David Frederick Budgeon at a dance hall.
On November 18, 1961 Myrna and Fred were married and settled north of Crossfield on their farm where they lived until they moved to town in 1999. Myrna loved many things in her life. She kept a large vegetable and flower garden, painted and quilted, volunteered with various community organizations and filled dozens of photo albums with happy memories of life on the farm and travels from around the world. Most of all, Myrna enjoyed her time with family and friends, touching many throughout her life with her generosity, compassion, and joyful spirit.
Myrna will be remembered in the community for her work with the Crossfield United Church, the Crossfield History Book Society, the Crossfield Community Memorial Forest, the Crossfield Legion, the Crossfield Classroom Agricultural Program, the Crossfield Swimming Program and her involvement in the local chapter of Quilts of Valour. She forged a special bond with her local “Coffee Girls” with whom she spent most mornings.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband of 56 years, Fred; her children, Grant (Kathy), Shelley, and Matthew; and two granddaughters, Sydney and Hilary; and extended family and friends.
She is predeceased by her infant sister, Mary Jane; brother, Maurice; father, Paul; and mother, Joan.
A Celebration of Life was held at the Crossfield Community Centre on February 23, 2018. In lieu of flowers, donations in Myrna’s memory may be made to the Parkinson Association of Alberta at 120, 6835 Railway St. SE, Calgary, AB T2H 2V6.
The family wish to thank the community for their generosity and support, and express sincere appreciation for the care extended to Myrna by the staff at the Foothills Medical Centre, particularly, the ER and ICU.Messages:

It is with a heavy heart that I write today after hearing this terribly sad news, and there has been little else on my mind for these past few days. Thinking back, it would have been 30 years ago this fall that I first met Myrna. When remembering Myrna several things quickly come to mind. To being with, you were always greeted with a bright radiant smile and twinkling eyes that lit up the room. Her energy was always so uplifting and positive, and she sure knew how to see humor and enjoy a good laugh. She was always so interested in whoever she was talking to as if they were the most important person on earth. I recall her always being so warm, caring, loving, and supportive. But most of all, she really loved and cherished her family to pieces. Anybody who had the pleasure of knowing Myrna is a better person for it. I extend my sincerest condolences and deepest sympathies to Fred and the entire family. Myrna will be deeply missed.

Myrna wore many hats in my world, she was our neighbour, Sunday School Teacher, Youth Group Leader, Choir Leader, she was like a big sister and after mom passed, she was that wonderful mom voice of wisdom. She had a smile that reached her eyes, a terrific sense of humour and a laugh that lite up my heart. I have memories of watching her whip up a coffe cake with no recipe to refer to! Watching her weed her garden and then putting paint to canvas creating her own master piece. Picking raspberries off her big patch of canes at the farm. My memories of her go on and on. I will miss her so much, but I am so richly blessed by having had her in my life. Much love Deb
Heartfelt sympathy to all the Budgeon family, such a huge loss, she will be missed by so many! She was a living angel on earth! God Bless you all! Rest In Peace Myrna! With fond memories, Colleen J Stephenson

My sincere sympathy, thoughts and prayers are with the family
My thoughts and prayers are with your family in this difficult time. My childhood was filled with happy memories of Myrna. She was always willing to drag Shelley’s Barbie dolls out of the bunkhouse for me to play with. Corey and I had so much fun, on the trip to Enderby, reading Archie comic books in your motorhome. Myrna was so patient teaching us how to decorate Easter eggs the traditional Ukrainian way. I will always smile when I think of the special person she was.
