Edith "Edie" Irene May (formerly Maccan)
January 21st, 2018
It is with profound sadness, and the heaviest of hearts, that we share the passing of our mother, Edie May. Edie fought a courageous battle for the past several weeks, but sadly succumbed to complications, passing peacefully with her children Jory Maccan and Chelsea Baglien by her side.
Edie grew up in Cremona, AB, with her parents Wilson “Boyd” and Ethel May as well as her four brothers and five sisters - Spending time on the family farm near Water Valley, AB and playing crib. Edie worked in the Oil & Gas Industry as a Landman, and was blessed to have loved her work. Her spare time was spent caring for her children and their friends, golfing, painting, enrolled in university courses and travelling; one of her favorite destinations was Maui.
Edie will be lovingly remembered as a woman of incredible strength, perseverance and generosity and leaves her loved ones with a legacy of values and virtues to live by. Edie was a devoted friend, trusted confidant and did not want to burden those she loved. The memory of her soft voice, genuine smile and warm hugs will be cherished by all who knew her.
Words cannot describe the sorrow of our loss, nor our love and respect for her dedication, hard work, and sacrifice in order to protect and provide for us. She taught us kindness, compassion, and a strong work ethic – All attributes that we will carry on as part of our own legacy.
Respecting Edie’s wishes there will be no service. We will be holding a Celebration of Life for her family and friends this coming spring. Location, date and time will be provided to those who RSVP to the following address: ediecelebrationoflife@gmail.com
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Edie’s memory to the Calgary Boys and Girls Club, 731 – 13th Ave. NE, Calgary, Alberta T2E 1C8.
In loving memory, a donation will be made by her children, as a dedication for her love of books and lifelong learning, to The Windows of Opportunity Campaign in support of the New Central Library, located in downtown Calgary.
We would like to extend our heartfelt thank you to the many spiritual care practitioners, health care aids, nurses, residents and doctors at the Foothills Medical Centre for their devoted care and treatment of our mom, for showing compassion and respect and maintaining her dignity.

So very sorry to hear of your mom's passing. Edie and I had been friends since we were 14 years old - met at your uncle Cliff and auntie Jean's wedding. I was her maid of honor at her wedding. My heart goes out to you and Chelsea and your families. I have many, many wonderful memories of her and many stories. She was so proud when she had her two wonderful children. Please let me know when her memorial service will be held. If either of you wish to contact me, please feel free to do so. Take care of yourselves and stay strong. Your mom was a super wonderful lady and I consider myself very lucky to have known her for 50 years. Love to all of you, Lois Knecht

So sorry to hear of the loss of your mom Aunty Jean
Chelsea and Jory, we were so sad to hear of your mom's passing today. I worked with your mom in the early 70's and she was one of my maids of honour at our wedding. I was thankful to reconnect with her 9 years ago and be able to keep in touch. I loved her quiet strength and her fabulous sense of humour. Our hearts go out to you and your family and we hope that the many warm memories of your mom will help you through your grief. Susan and Cam Black
