After a life committed to his family, Lawrence W. McClain passed away peacefully on May 28, 2018 with his family by his side, at the South Health Campus in Calgary. Larry was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be cherished always by Evelyn, his wife of 63 years, and their five children Gord McClain (Shannon), Shelly Stewart (Bill), Chuck McClain (Laurel), Cliff McClain (Shannon) and Shirley Pacholok as well as 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Larry was predeceased by his parents Lawrence and Alberta McClain, his siblings Maxine Moser (Joe), C.J. McClain (Colleen) and Ruth Croteau (Rene), as well as his son-in-law Darrell Pacholok. Born May 1,1935 in Magrath, Alberta, Larry loved boxing, participating at a competitive level in his younger days. He worked with his father in the coal mines and played a part in building many of the roads and dams in Southern Alberta before enlisting in the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1954. Larry served his country as a Weapons Technician Air for 20 years with postings in France, Germany, Prince Edward Island, Quebec and Alberta, where he retired in 1974. He started a trucking company in Grand Centre, Alberta and operated it for several years before complete retirement. Larry and Evelyn enjoyed spending time at Marie Lake in the summer and wintering in Yuma, AZ. They also enjoyed visiting with their growing family and their many friends. In recent years, Larry and Evelyn resided in Okotoks, Alberta to be closer to their family. A greatly admired and respected man, Larry will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Cremation will be followed by a private family burial in Magrath. A Celebration of Larry’s Life will be held on July 8, 2018 from 2:30-4:30 at the Heartland Retirement Residence, 47 Riverside Gate, Okotoks. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to your favourite medical charity.
