Patricia "Patty" Louise O’Neill (Newman)

October 17th, 2018

Patty O’Neill passed away peacefully, with family by her side, on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at the age of 70. She is lovingly remembered by her children, Patrick (Melanie), Ryan (Ceara), Jenny (Tye), Katie (Cam), Conor; her grandchildren, Matthew, Meikenna, Abel and Caleb. Patty is also survived by her siblings, Peggy, Mary, Terry, Betty, Michael, Jack, Sean, Mark, Louise, Jean and Erin; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Leo and Betty; brother, Matthew; and granddaughter, Emma.

Patty was one of the strongest, kindest and most generous ladies you could meet. She had a very strong faith and was an active member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Airdrie, Alberta. Specifically, Patty volunteered in Pastrol Care, work she did quietly, though it was of great importance to her.

Patty was born in Hamilton, Ontario on January 5, 1948 and moved to Winnipeg with her family in 1962. She then moved to Calgary in 1970, where she spent time working at Macleod Dixon Law Office and later started a family in 1980. Soon after, she moved to Airdrie where she raised her 5 children and remained until she passed. Patty had a passion for antiques and this was a career she loved for many years. Many great and enduring friendships were formed during her time buying and selling.

Patty enjoyed playing cards and antique shopping; most of all, Patty loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and close friends. She was a very caring and giving lady who touched many lives and will be deeply missed.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, 1205 Main St S., Airdrie, Alberta, on Friday, October 26, 2018 at 1:00pm. In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Patty to the Airdrie Lioness Club for Christmas hampers, P.O. Box 80102, Airdrie, Alberta, T4B 2V8.

Messages:

I am soooo sad to hear of your Mom/Grandma’s passing. She was always so kind, generous and thoughtful. I know that she has passed on these fine qualities to you; the children that she adored. I know that Conor, Katie & Jenny got their Mom’s beautiful smile too. I remember that I always enjoyed her company while at our Pre-school. (Fuzzy Pickles) May your memories of your Mom help you along the way. Remember that she was a warm and Special lady. My heartfelt condolences. Irene Harron

Do not stand at my grave and weep I am not there. I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow. I am the diamond glints on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain. I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning's hush I am the swift uplifting rush Of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry; I am not there. I did not die. Mary Elizabeth Frye

On behalf of the Esligar family, I would like to offer our condolences to Patty’s entire family. She always beamed with joy when we spoke of how her children were doing. Patty was such a kind, loving Christ-filled woman who will be missed dearly. Rose Esligar

Today was a difficult day filled with lots of tears, emotion and memories as we said good bye to our dear friend Patty. My family and I are honored to have had Patty and her family in our lives as neighbours and good friends. Our kids grow up playing in the same playgrounds and attending the same schools. Patty welcomed our family into their home, we shared many Christmas dinners, Camping at Bottrell, Firepits in her back yard and many long conversations about our lives over a nice hot cup of tea. It was a blessing having Patty as a dear friend we could always count on, she is sadly missed. Prayers and Love from Donna & Clifford and family.

I have warm memories of Patty, we volunteered together at Bethany Care in Airdrie many years ago. She had a big heart, always reaching out to others. I usually called her when I came to Airdrie for a visit. I will miss her cheerful smile and good heart. She is a witness to love. My condolences to her children, she spoke of you with loving hearts.

Our condolences from the d’Haêne family to all of Patti’s children as some of our children went through school with her children. She was such a kind, thoughtful lady. She will be dearly missed.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the family during this time. Patty was like a second mom to me when I moved to Airdrie. She would always make sure I took some food home with me after a church function. She will be sadly missed.

Dear Pat We were so saddened to hear about your Mom. She was such a nice lady and always so pleasant when we would meet her. I had hoped to attend her funeral on Friday but will be out of town. Auntie Patty will be sorely missed. She had such a gentle and kind demeanour. I have many fond memories of her that I will forever cherish and keep close to my heart. Our thoughts and love go out to her children, (my cousins), her siblings and all who’s life she touched.

Jenny, Katie, Conor, Pat, Ryan and families my heart breaks for all of you with this loss of your Mom. I have a lot of good memories growing up with Jenny and as an adult of your mom. Every time I ran into her she would give me a great big hug and ask how things were going. She was an amazing lady with a heart of gold and she will be dearly missed.

Dear Jenny and family, my deepest condolences to all of you at this very difficult time in your life. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

I had such fond memories of my cousin Patty. She was thoughtful, kind, compassionate, smart and funny. She stayed with us whenever she came to Hamilton and I stayed with her for two weeks back in 1977 when I visited Calgary. She was one of my father's favorites and she took his humor in great spirit. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this very difficult time.

Sending the Family our most sincere deepest sympathy. Your Mom will be remembered for her Love of her Family. Know that we are thinking of everyone at this time. Jack and Gayle Tillapaugh
