Charles "Chuck" died peacefully at Bethany Seniors Care Home in West Hillhurst April 12th, 2018. He was 86 years old.
Chuck was born Feb 19, 1932, in Menstrie, Scotland. He immigrated to Canada in 1954 eventually settling in Calgary where he met the love of his life, Audrey. They married in 1957 and bought a house on the edge of the city in Glamorgan where they raised their family. Chuck worked for Trans Canada Pipelines for 30 1/2 years. Which was the number on his beloved Detroit Red Wings jersey given to him at his retirement. Chuck was also a dedicated Flames fan but his sporting loves were Glasgow Celtic FC, soccer in general and coaching in particular. Chuck was a well-respected coach for several decades starting in Glamorgan and continuing on with the Chinook Tornadoes. Soccer gave Chuck as many great memories as it did friends and stories. His other great love was singing and he had a beautiful tenor voice. Favourite Christmas/New Years memories were of the duo Rogers (Ron) & Taylor belting out songs acapella (before that was a thing) while doing the dishes by hand. Both families enjoying their live performances! Singing was a passion he pursued well into retirement with his dear friends at Bow Cliff Seniors. Chuck will be remembered for his friendliness, humour, storytelling, and singing voice. Chuck was predeceased by his wife of 47 years, Audrey, daughter Karen, mother Isabella, father Richard. He is survived by his daughter Anne-Marie, son Richard, granddaughters Leisha and Keisha, great-granddaughter Aniyah, and numerous relations in Scotland. The family is grateful and wants to give our thanks to Bethany Seniors Care Southview Unit for their dedication to his care in his final years. We are also grateful to Calgary EMS, the staff, nurses, and doctors of the Foothills Hospital emergency ward and unit 36. The care, concern, heart, and hard work of all of these dedicated professionals is greatly appreciated. In accordance with Chuck's wishes, there will be no funeral or memorial service. Donations would be appreciated in lieu of flowers to Alzheimer Society Canada, 20 Eglinton Avenue West 16 flr., Toronto, ON, M4R 1K8 or through their website alzheimer.ca/en/Home.

I just heard about Chucks passing and am saddened but also honored to have known him many years ago. Soccer in the 70's (especially a couple of trips to the Tom's Lake Tourney) and watching the early days of the Flames watching some games in the basement with him, Audrey and Annie and sharing a few cold ones. His laugh and smile were infectious and the picture above is exactly how I remember him. The memories are great ones that I will hold forever. My condolences to Annie and Rich (and your families). My sincere condolences and deepest sympathies to you, Anne-Marie, and your family. Few words can describe my heartfelt sadness upon learning of your dear father's passing. I have a lasting appreciation for and fond memories of his skillful teaching and thoughtful guidance as the coach of our Chinook Tornadoes Midget championship soccer team many years ago. His positive impact and impression on my teammates and I as young men will never be forgotten. May his soul rest in peace.
I am glad that just sitting with you holding your hand watching a hockey game seemed to comfort you at the end. You are with Mom now and I hope you are both happy.

Life is about creating moments. I was so lucky to have Mr. Taylor as my soccer coach. He really understood that life is to enjoy. We had some pretty darned good teams, but more importantly, we had fun together, and he made sure of it. Thank you Mr. Taylor for all those wonderful moments.
