Darrah, Robert (Bob) James
September 1950 – July 10, 2019
It is with great sadness our family announces the passing of Robert (Bob) James Darrah. Bob passed away peacefully with his family at his side after fighting a courageous battle with bladder cancer – a battle he was sure he could and would win.
Bob served with Canadian Pacific Police Service for 29 years. He joined their force in Toronto in 1971 and policed at CP Air, CP Hotels and CP Ships. He was transferred to Revelstoke, B.C. in 1984 as the head of security for the Rogers Pass Tunnel Project. This was a huge move for our family and we listened to the stories he told of the bears and other wildlife that passed by his office window every day in the National Park. In 1987 he finished in Revelstoke and was transferred to Calgary where he retired in 2000 at the rank of Detective Staff Sergeant. He truly loved his job! We say “retired” but he went on to work at Canadian Tire, and of late, worked as a professional driver improvement instructor, training Firefighters and Paramedics in partnership with his long-time friend Rod Davis. Bob also served on several of the condo Boards of Directors at Sierras of Evergreen during the fourteen years we have lived here.
Bob is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife Eleanor, son Todd (Angela), and daughter Robin (Kevin), grandchildren Spencer, Charleigh, Carly and Emma, sister Rose Marie (Murray), nephew David (Jacki) great niece McKenzie, niece Jennifer, great nephew Landon and several cousins in Ontario. He was predeceased by his parents and eldest sister.
Bob lived a very fulfilling and loving life, was respected and loved by many and will be deeply missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held July 27th, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at 15 Everstone Dr SW, 2nd Floor, Building “A”, T2Y 5B5.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Bob’s memory to the Foundation Office, High River Hospital, Cancer Care Unit, 560 9th Ave SW, High River, AB T1V 1P8

Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this sad time. Eleanor, I am so thankful we were able to see both of you earlier this year, even though it was during a sad and difficult time for your family. May the Lord wrap his arms around you, and your family as you mourn Robert's passing. God Bless you!
Just heard, so sorry for your loss. Our thoughts are with you. Dave and Mary.
Bob Darrah was a wonderful brilliant man and paid lots of attention to the building deficiencies and the needs of the corporation, serving on the Board of Directors for many years. He was a tremendous asset to the corporation and a real support of Diversified Management Southern which is greatly appreciate. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife and family, as Bob will be sadly missed by all of us. May God bless him and the family during this difficult time. DMS will indeed provide a donation in lieu of flowers. thank you.
So very sorry for your loss. My heart is with you, Eleanor, and your family. So glad I finally got to meet Bob when you were here .. it was a short visit but I felt like I knew him for a very long time .. through Lynn's admiration and love for him .. and knowing that you would have only someone wonderful in your life - because that is what you deserved! In reading about his life it is obvious he had a good one. God love you and your family!
Eleanor and family, David and I were both saddened and shocked by the news of Bob's death. Truly, our hearts go out to you. We know Bob was the ultimate professional in his work as well as being a devoted family man. He will really be missed by so many, us included.
The Darrah Family are one of the rare families that make you feel welcome every time you enter their home. A home that is always filled with laughter. I am very fortunate knowing you all. I will always laugh when I think of Bob giving me a tour of the condo complex and unlocking every door on his key ring to show what was on the other side (there were A LOT of keys). I smile when I think of how he inspected my questionably road-worthy vehicle (there were A LOT of questions) when I picked up Robin to head to Penticton for summer trips and reluctantly let us go. Mostly, I will never forget how Bob and Eleanor welcomed me to their home on Christmas Day when I was a broke college student and couldn’t afford to go home. They made me feel welcome. While my interactions with Bob were few over the years, I am very aware of the impact he had on the people who had him in their lives on a daily basis. He was loved and he will be missed. Sending you all nothing but love.
My sincerest condolences to Eleanor, Todd & Robin and family. I remember Bob as always being a very genuine and caring man. Always had a kind word and a smile on his face. He was a good friend to me whenever we were together. Love & Prayers
Bob was one of the finishest friendliest people one could ever wish to meet. We got to know him and his wonderful family in Revelstoke BC when we both worked on CP's Rogers Pass Project. Never flustered and always wearing a smile. Too soon it seems the good are taken. Rest in peace.
Eleanor my thoughts are with you throughout this time , a hug is being sent your way
Bob was one of the truly good ones which is evident in his family life and marriage of many years to the same beautiful woman. I know Eleanor will be fine until she meets him again because she will have so many wonderful memories to keep her warm. He children and Grandchildren will keep her surrounded with love. No doubt she will miss him but those times hopefully will be few while she begins to go through her memory bank of their long history. RIP Robert . Eleanor, GOD gave Bob the absolute best and loving wife in you. May the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord make his face to shine upon you, and be gracious to you. May the Lord lift up his countenance upon you, and give you peace My sincerest condolences Eleanor and family.
I'm sorry for your loss, Robin. He sounds like an adventurous, fun dad.
My deepest condolences. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Sending light and strength to you all.
I will always think of Bob with fondness. I had the privilege of meeting him when I was the Persons with Disabilities Portfolio officer with the Calgary Police in 1998. Bob was a huge supporter of my portfolio and through the CP Police provided funding for some of my initiatives! Years later I was again privileged to work with his son Todd; we were work partners at CPS for six years before my retirement in 2019. Bob will always have a special place in my heart and my thoughts are with all of his wonderful family members.
I’m sending you my sympathy and love and know that your friends will hold you up. See you on the 26th.
Rest in peace Bob ......
