HOGLUND, Norman

It is with sadness we announce the passing of Norman Hoglund on Monday, April 8, 2019 in Didsbury, Alberta. “Norm” was the only son of Ed and Betty Hoglund.

He was born in Invermere, B.C. on February 2, 1934. He started his working career in Banking with the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce in Invermere, from there he moved to Yellowknife and then to Jasper, Alberta.  This is where he met Marie, his wife of 59 years.

Norm loved to dance and was the first one on the dance floor and the last off. Norm was a strong member in the many small communities he lived in.  He belonged to the Kinsmen, the Lions Club, the Legion and was even a volunteer fire fighter at one time.

Norm finished up banking in 1983 and went to try his hand at some physical labour at Windsor Plywood in Kamloops.

His true love was the season of summer, Norm and Marie and family spent many wonderful summers out in Chase where he worked as grounds keeper, ensuring everything was pristine and making friendships was of great importance.

Norm and Marie final working years were shared together managing the Super 8 Motel in Golden, B.C.  Many attributes were given to him as his personality shone in this position.  He greeted people from all over the world and many friends stopped to visit them.  He loved that.  He loved to entertain.  His door was always open and a cold beverage always available.

Norm and Marie decided it was time to fold the sheet and went to live with their daughter and her husband in the little rural community of Didsbury.  Norm enjoyed the small town feel and being able to make friends with the fellow in the gas station, tease the gals in the grocery store and ensure he had the “winning” lottery ticket.

His health unfortunately declined and he just couldn’t win the battle this time.

Norm is survived by his wife, Marie; daughter, Shannon and her husband Murray; daughter, Shelly and her husband, Terry; six granddaughters, Crystal (Chris), Jenna ( Gord), Vaness, Kerry, Tiffany (Tyler) and Stevie. Finally some boys, his great-grandsons, Colby, Blaine, Jacen, Edwin and Ashton; and one great-granddaughter Evelyn. Norm was a wonderful grandfather to Terry’s son, Andrew and his wife, Orlanda and took on the role of G.G. Pa to their little girls Olivia and Amelia.

Norm will be laid to rest with his Father and Mother later this year.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, #200-885 Dunsmuir Street, Vancouver, BC V6C 1N5.
