Delbert Arland Howery
Born July 13, 1928 in Hanna AB - Died February 12, 2019 in Hanna AB
On Tuesday February 12, Delbert Howery passed away in Hanna’s Long Term Care Centre at the age of 90 years. Delbert passed peacefully with his wife Evelyn, niece Judi Madge and Pastor Paul Warnock at his bedside.
Delbert (Del) was a lifelong resident of Hanna and area. Del’s father, Bee Howery, settled in the Grassy Slope area near Hanna in 1928, and the family struggled on the farm until 1938 when Bee traded a number of horses for an auto wrecking business in Hanna and the family moved to town. Del worked many jobs throughout his teens and early adult life, but most of his friends will remember him as proprietor of Howery Backhoe & Trenching, started by Bee Howery, taken over by Del in the mid 1960’s, and subsequently operated by Del’s son Kevin. Delbert was a kind, gentle, unassuming man, and through the trials and ordeals endured in his final years, he always treated family, friends and staff at the Hanna Long Term Care Centre with kindness, respect and humour. You never heard him complain. He took things as they came and met them head on.
Delbert is survived by his wife of 67 years, Evelyn, sons Terry (Sue), Deland, Kevin (Char) and brother Ron (Sheila), sister in law Frieda Howery, and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jennifer, Ron, Richard, Sarah and Leslie and 7 great grandchildren. Delbert was predeceased by his daughter Idele Rose, son Robin Daryl, father Harold (Bee) Howery, mother Rose Howery, brothers Harold & Donald (Don) Howery.
A Funeral Service will be held at Hanna Alliance Church on Thursday, February 21, 2019 at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Hanna Long Term Care facility.
