Catherine Huene

HUENE, Catherine Elliott (October 8, 1930 – March 25, 2019), beloved wife of Ray Huene, and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Hannah of Brandon, Manitoba, died peacefully at home with her family around her. Catherine attended school in Brandon, and graduated from the University of Western Ontario with a Bachelor of Nursing (1953). She worked at Calgary General, Vancouver General, University Hospital Edmonton, and Foothills Hospital in Calgary. Nothing was more important to Catherine than her family. She is survived by her four children (Paul, Janet, Claire, and Andrea) and their spouses, as well as seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Jean McIntosh, in Vancouver. Catherine cared deeply about environmental and social issues, and was actively involved with Friends of Medicare, the Council of Canadians, and Nature Calgary. Catherine was also a life-long member of the Canadian Federation of University Women. She took great pleasure in attending book club, bird watching, and enjoying her property at Ghost Lake Village. A celebration of Catherine’s life will be held at Parkdale United Church (2919 - 8 Avenue NW) at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10, 2019. In lieu of flowers, Catherine would appreciate donations to EcoJustice, or the Nature Conservancy of Canada.
