Reta Irene Laut, beloved wife of Don Laut of Crossfield, passed away peacefully at the Rockyview Hospital on February 15, 2019 at the age of 87 years. Reta was born in Calgary and went to Tanybryn School and Carstairs High School. After graduating, she attended the Calgary Business School. Reta went on to work for the United Grain Growers in Calgary. Reta married Don Laut on August 4, 1956 and moved to the Crossfield area. Together Reta and Don successfully farmed and raised four children. Reta was active with the Ladies of Royal Purple and the United Church Women where, among other things, she assisted in teaching Sunday School. Reta was also very active in the start up of the Crossfield Farmers Market. Reta and Don retired to Crossfield in 1995 and travelled to Yuma for the winter for 27 years. There, they enjoyed the warmth and the many friendships they made. They traveled to many destinations including Costa Rica, the Panama Canal, Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Scotland, Ireland, Norway, Alaska and Hawaii, as well as a family trip with all her children and grandchildren to Disney World. Besides her loving husband, Reta is survived by her children, Steve (Lori), Ross (Tracy), Leslie (Lyle) and Cameron (Alice); grandchildren, Kagen, Brandon (Kendra), Danae (Tanner), Taylor, Jonel, Tristan, Claire and Ben; great-grandchildren, Kelsey and Conrad; brother, Walter; sister, Kay. Reta was predeceased by her parents, Lorne and Alberta Wilson; her sister Una Wilson and sister Lois Walker. Reta's family is extremely grateful for the tremendous care she received from the staff at Unit 47 in the Rockyview Hospital. A Memorial Service will be held at the Crossfield Community Hall, 900 Mountain Avenue, Crossfield, AB on Monday, February 25th at 1:30pm.
