McGUIRE JR., ROBERT HILLARY
1933-2019
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Robert (Bob) Hillary McGuire Jr, at the age of 86 years old, on Saturday September 14, 2019 at the Foothills Hospital.
Bob is survived by his wife, Creta McGuire; his sons, Curtis McGuire of Seattle, WA and Brad McGuire (Mary Morrissey) of Naperville, IL.; his four grandchildren, Brayden McGuire of Seattle, WA, Marnie McGuire (Ben Froese) of Grand Rapids, MI, Jacquelyn McGuire of Amsterdam, Netherlands and Jack Morrissey of Naperville/Kalamazoo MI. Also surviving Bob are his brothers, Brian McGuire (Louise); and Lynn McGuire (Lois); and numerous in-laws, nephews, cousins, friends and his Brittany Spaniel Diva.
Bob was predeceased by his parents Robert Sr. and Liane McGuire, of Stanford, MT, USA.
Bob attended the University of Montana where he received his Bachelor and Masters of Science degrees. During those summers he worked for the US Forest Service in the field and on fire lookout towers. Moving to Calgary in 1956 on a 2 year temporary assignment, he spent the next 35 years in the oil and gas business in Alberta as a geologist.
He was an active member of the Varsity Acres Presbyterian Church, serving as a founding elder, President of the Calgary chapter and National Treasurer of Pheasants Forever, Cub Leader, Varsity Acres Community Association Board Member and weekly volunteer with In From the Cold.
Bob’s passions were pheasant hunting, fishing and reading. He enjoyed training and walking his many dogs, playing bridge with his friends and Yahtzee with Creta. He loved the family cabin in Montana, never missing a year of fishing, hunting or time spent with his family and friends in his favorite place on earth.
He was a much loved husband, father, grandpa and a devoted friend. We will miss him.
A Celebration of his Life will be held at Varsity Acres Presbyterian Church, 4612 Varsity Drive, Calgary, AB, T3A 1V7 on Friday September 20, 2019 at 1:30 pm. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Care Share Fund, c/o Varsity Acres Presbyterian Church.Messages:
