Roy Henry Whetter
January 16th, 2019
It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Roy Whetter on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at the age of 58 years.
Roy was born on January 18, 1960 in Edmonton, Alberta to Russell and Ella Whetter. He grew up and spent his childhood with his six siblings Sandy, Marty, Al, Daryl, Ron and Nancy in Canmore, Alberta until age 9, and then in Crossfield, Alberta. Roy loved playing sports, especially hockey, and riding motorcycles and tinkering with all things mechanical. His aptitude with all things mechanical turned into a career and Roy became a Millwright in 1985. He worked at the East Crossfield Gas Plant for 18 years and then went on to start his own successful business, RCS Mechanical, and he worked extensively in the oil and gas industry in Alberta.
Roy married Lisa (nee Popp) in 1985 and they had two children, Cheston and Sharmaine.
Hard working Roy found fun and enjoyment spending time with family and friends and enjoying the great outdoors.
Roy was predeceased by his father Russell Whetter.
Roy will be greatly missed by his children Cheston (Amy and recent grand-daughter Satie) and Sharmaine (JT); his mother Ella and his siblings Sandy (Chase & Chelsea), Marty (Tracy, Carly & Jennifer), Al, Daryl, Ron and Nancy (Darren, Mitchell & Tessa).
Grand-daughter Satie Catherine Whetter, born November 17, 2018, was Roy’s pride and joy and he loved her dearly; she was Grandpa Roy’s little angel.
Roy touched the lives of everyone he met, and although gone far too soon, the family is ever grateful for the years they had being loved and cared for by this kind and wonderful man. He truly had a heart of gold.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Crossfield Community Centre, 900 Mountain Ave., Crossfield, AB on Saturday, January 26th at 2:00 PM.

My condolences to Roy’s family. I went to school with Roy many years ago. Although I had not seen him in some time, I fondly recall sharing my high school locker with him- always a great guy.
Deepest sympathy to the Whetter family. Cheston, words can’t describe how sorry we are for the loss of your dad. We didn’t get to know your dad, but he must have been a wonderful man to have such a great son as you. Take care bud and if you ever need anything we are here for you.
Always hope to see Roy when I made deliveries to Taqa, his happiness and friendliness made lots of days better.
Barb and I were very shocked and saddened to hear of Roy's passing. He was a very kind person, with a big smile and a heart to match. Our heartfelt condolences to the Whetter family. Barb Grover Kruse and Maggie Grover
I am so sorry to hear of Roy’s passing. I haven’t seen Roy in a long time, but have wonderful memories. When he worked at Competition Service’s , I was working at the Gulf Station, we would get up early and play tennis and go jogging together before going to work. I remember asking him about the Millwright trade after he got his certificate , his response was so positive, he was so happy, and that is the reason I have a Millwright certificate today. I will remember Roy as one of the most kindest people I know. My sincere condolences to all the family and friends. May he Rest In Peace. Jeff Harris

Roy was made from a mould that was a one time use. He had the heart of gold and although looked liked a grizzly bear, was the cuddliest bear you would ever know. I will miss you very dearly Roy. I am very sad to hear this, my condolences to the family. Roy was a great teammate and friend whenever I saw him sparingly in the last number of years, (his approachable smile comes to mind, and you could play a foot taller with him on your side!). Although his size and strength were readily apparent, he was a gentle old soul, very genuine and authentic, always kind, and happy to see you. Rest In Peace Roy.
Mrs Ella and Family My deepest condolences to you. I met Roy years ago in Crossfield. I have great memories of hockey games, laughs, and his friendship. We haven't had contact for many years, as we all had our lives to live. I am very happy he got to enjoy being Grampa Roy, even for a short time. Heartfelt hugs and love to you all. Penny Gunderson
My deepest thoughts are with your family and friends. You have touched so many people in your life. Please send my love to Ella and siblings.
Roy was really one of a kind guy, he took the time to listen to anyone and everyone. He had a great sense of humor that radiated to everyone around him. He was one of the guys that I enjoyed every minute with, always laughing, joking and teaching others his knowledge. Roy taught me numerous things, he always had time to explain things and made sure you understood. Roy was one of the smartest guys I have ever known, to wrap his knowledge with his sense of humor and overall being a nice guy I don’t think there will ever be another guy like him. Roy was one of the hardest working guys I have known as well, his work ethic rubbed off on all of the guys around him. I will miss you Roy, you really were one of the best!
Our thoughts and prayers are with your family- so sorry for your loss.
Our sincere condolences to all of Roy’s family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Peter and Sylvia
