June 6, 1941 – November 26, 2020
It is with profound sadness we announce that Georg Langenau, age 79, passed away suddenly on Thursday, November 26, 2020 in Calgary, Alberta.
Georg was born in Germany June 6, 1941 to parents, Emil and Ursula. They immigrated to Canada in 1953, settling in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Georg served from 1959-1961 with the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders of Canada. In1961, he enrolled in the Canadian Airforce, where he started his new career as an avionics technician. He was transferred to CFB Cold Lake, where he met his wife, Marie and they started a family. In his service with the Canadian Airforce, he was posted in France and twice in Germany. Georg retired from the military and settled with his family in Calgary, Alberta. As a civilian, Georg continued his career as an avionics technician with Field Aviation. In his retirement he enjoyed playing 55+ hockey, watching his grandchildren play hockey, attending IOOB meetings, telling dirty jokes, MacGyvering things, spending time at the Legion and talking politics. One of his greatest joys in life was tending his plants and gardening.
Georg is lovingly remembered by his wife, Marie; daughters, Sam (John) Belanger and Tanya Langenau (James); son John (Betina) Langenau; grandchildren, Larissa (Darrian), Nadia, AJ, Aiden, Payton and Easton; as well as a vast extended family. Georg was predeceased by his parents, Emil, Ursula and Caspar; and grandson, Kalix Langenau.
A Memorial for Georg will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations be made to the Veterans Food Bank of Calgary, www.theveteransfoodbankofcalgary.ca/donate-now/.
No farewell words were spoken
No time to say good bye,
You were gone before we knew it
And only God knows why.
Our hearts still ache in sadness
And secret tears still flow,
What it meant to lose you
No one can ever know.
But now we know you want us
To mourn for you no more,
To remember all the happy times
Life still has in store.
Since you’ll never be forgotten
We pledge to you today,
A hallowed place within our hearts
Is where you’ll always stay.
Messages:
The Calgary IOOB (Old Bastards) will miss Georg at our meetings and bus trips. He added a lot of Friendship Fellowship and Fun to all of us. We will miss you Georg.
I played +55 hockey with Georg and grew to love his humour and competitiveness. No one could defend an opposing player better than Georg; nor tell a better joke!!! We’ll miss him on the ice and especially the dressing room chats..
I had the pleasure of playing hockey regularly with Georg for about 3 seasons. That's how I met him. He was always complimentary of my playing as I was with him. He had a passion and genuine love of the game. The guys and me even met him a couple of times at the legion in NE Calgary for a beer and conversation. I'll miss you Georg. Keep your head up and stick on the ice when you're playing "up there". Love always, Larry "Fonzie" Fong.
I am so sorry for your loss, I played 55+ hockey with Georg for the last five or more years, and often sat beside him in the dressing room. He was always welcoming and kind, and brought his character, values, and humor each game. He toughed our hearts and will be missed when we return to the rink
All of us who played with you on the Crowchild Black +55 hockey team will miss you Georg. Rest in peace and keep your stick on the ice when you play in the top league from now on!
John and Betina, Payton, and Easton. Our condolences to you and your family. Love Uncle Don and Antie Carole Please tell your family our hearts are with you all.
My condolences to Georg's entire family. I have fond memories of Georg from my many years of playing Euchre with him & Marie at the Rundle Community Centre. I always liked Georg... his serious game play, his wonderful sense of humour, and his overall character. I am sad that I have not seen him in a few years.
