Donald Gene McIntosh
August 20th, 2020
On Thursday, August 20, 2020, our dear Dad, Donald Gene McIntosh, passed away at the age of 78, following complications from cancer.
Don, as he was known to everyone, was born and raised in Vancouver, BC, and later moved to Regina, SK, with his hardworking single mom, Eileen Burke. He married for the first time and started a family at the tender age of 18. Dad moved to Calgary, AB in the early 1970s with his second wife, Marilyn Madsen. Dad loved Calgary and lived there for the rest of his life.
As a young man, Dad was a member of the Army Reserve. He spent many years working as a long-distance driver. He joined the hospitality industry in the 1970s, working for a number of years at the Airliner Hotel, and eventually moving into restaurant design, equipment and sales, where he worked until the age of 77, when he retired from Crown Food Equipment.
Dad was always a very handsome and charming man who loved life and lived large. In his youth Dad enjoyed remodelling cars, racing motorcycles and playing pool. After moving out to Alberta, Dad took up skiing and golf with Marilyn. They enjoyed a busy social life, often travelling to Las Vegas and Palm Springs. Dad’s favourite activity in his later years was playing golf and cards with his good buddies.
Dad was predeceased by Marilyn in 2015. He is lovingly remembered by his three daughters, Verna, Michele and Cora; and four grandchildren, Sean, Connor, Laurence, and Rowan.
On behalf of our Dad, we would like to thank all of his many friends, colleagues and acquaintances for making Don’s life better for being part of it. We are grateful to the wonderful staff at Foothills Hospital and Bethany Care Centre for the excellent care he received in his final days.

My condolences to Don’s family. I knew Don from my years at the Elks and most recently Winston golf club. I loved his humour and enjoyed playing golf with him. RIP Don

Sad to hear of Don passing away, I have known and worked with Don for over 30 years and enjoyed playing golf several times in the past 15 years with a great golfer! Will miss you Don.
We will Don at our upcoming Golf Drafts in September. As a previous Member of the Elks I discussed and argued many times with Don on all kinds of issues. I had a lot of fun with Don over the years. I along with many others will miss him greatly.
What a beautiful man. It was a pleasure to get to know him, and see just how hard he worked and fought in his life to do well, and how he cared for his friends and family. He left the world a better place. Bless you Don McIntosh, and May me share a pint in heaven!
