Eileen Elna McMechan

It is with great sadness that the family of Eileen McMechan announces her sudden, yet peaceful, passing on Sunday, September 20, 2020, in Calgary, Alberta, at the age of 83 years. Eileen will be lovingly remembered, and sadly missed, by her children and grandchildren, as well as her nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Eileen was born April 27, 1937 in Calgary, Alberta, to her adoptive parents, Herman and Jenny Hornstrom. She spent the entirety of her long and meaningful life in Calgary, the city she loved. She graduated from Crescent High School in 1955 and received a diploma as a Legal Secretary thereafter. She married David McMechan in 1957, with whom she had four children prior to divorcing in 1983. Eileen inherited Hornstrom Brothers Construction Limited in 1962, a construction firm which played a significant role in the growth of Calgary from 1917 to 1982.
Eileen is lovingly remembered by her four children, Derreck (Pat), Brad, Brenda, and Brian; her two granddaughters, Arianna and Isabelle; and her many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Eileen's honour at a date to be determined.
