It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Leonard Poffenroth, at the age of 87 years, at Covenant Villa Marie in Red Deer on Wednesday, March 18, 2020. Leonard was born December 17, 1932 in
Calgary, Alberta and grew up on the family farm in the Huxley area. Leonard farmed with his father John until 1977, and then he and his family moved to Trochu, Alberta. Leonard drove school bus, the community bus, as well as helped local farmers with seeding and harvesting until his retirement. Leonard will be lovingly rememebred by his son, Randy (Debbie) Poffenroth; daughter, Sandy (Peter Vera) Kennedy of Red Deer; grandchildren, Shane (Erin) Kennedy of Edmonton and Brittany (Ben) Williams of Dubai; as well as great-grandchildren, Max, Zach & Sophia Kennedy and Marnie, Astrid and Dylan Williams. Leonard is also survived by nieces, Diana (Willis) Kareluk and Janice (Jack) Hepburn; nephews, Barry (Linda) Koch, Brad (Teresa) Rankin and Terry Rankin; and brother in law, Delton (Betty) Gehring. Leonard is predeceased by his parents, John and Mary Louise Poffenroth; wife, Bettyellen; and sisters, Stella Koch and Alice Rankin. Due to the current safety measures in place, the Celebration of Life for Leonard will take place at a later date at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Red Deer, Alberta. Memorial Donations may be made in Leonard's name to the charity of your choice.
Sandy and Randy and families. So sorry to here about your dad. My dad and your dad we’re good friends back in the day. And after my dad died he was very good with my mom, as was your mom. Please make sure to let me know when the memorial is. I will be sure to be there. Tyson and Corinne Hepburn.
