Joseph Eric Rainey

It is with overwhelming sadness that we announce the passing of Joseph Eric Rainey. Joe ended his struggle with Dementia on Saturday, June 20, 2020 at home surrounded by his loving family at the age of 65.
Joe was born April 10, 1955 in Calgary where he lived his entire life. He married his teenage sweetheart in 1981. Joe was proud to have spent the majority of his career in the heavy-duty truck industry. He was an ethical person with a strong moral compass. He will be remembered for his quick wit and his amazing sense of humour. He loved old cars, fast cars and anything Canadian. The most important thing in Joe's life was his family and was a loving husband and father. Even though this horrible disease slowly robbed him over the years of everything that made him such a unique individual he always maintained his core goodness.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Joan Rainey; his sons, Matthew (Amber) Crivellone, Geoffrey (Erin) Rainey; daughter, Stephanie (Steve) Dalton; his 5 grandchildren, Kaydence, Linden, Oliver, Ottila and Mary. He is also survived by his brothers, Terry (Nancy) Rainey and Micheal (Linda) Rainey; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Dr. Dawn Pearson and her staff for the compassionate care that was given to Joe and his family over these most difficult years.
Joe passed on the summer equinox, the longest day of the year. The time of year when our spirits are yearning to be out, to feel alive, to be moving, to be celebrating. He is in a better place now where his mind is finally clear. He will be greatly missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

I’m very sorry to hear of Joe’s passing. In the short time I got to know him it became obvious what an intelligent, compassionate and outgoing person he was. Please accept my heartfelt sympathy. People like Joe Rainey are truly rare. His love of family was always obvious. Remembering the first time I met Joe, he made me feel so welcome & comfortable right away. He always had a pleasant word & we shared several fun evenings with plenty of laughs. It was an honour to have known Joe Rainey, he will be very much missed….

So sorry Joan I will always remember Joe for all the great times we had . Have read those old car mags you left and they all had to do with his project dreams.

Wonderful obituary for an amazing man!! I will miss Uncle Joe greatly, I remember lots of great talks with Uncle Joe from the time I was a small kid at Gramma and Grampa Curries house on Sundays to being a teenager with a passion for cars to a Dad with kids of my own talking about the trials and tribulations of fatherhood. He was timeless and never seemed to age. I will also remember his kind smile, in fact I do not ever remember a time when he didn’t smile or talk in that great soothing voice he had. He was a classic and the kind of guy you could easily describe to those that you don’t know as “the kind of guy they don’t make like that anymore”. God bless Uncle Joe and God Bless your family as well who hold a very special place in my Heart.
Love you dad. Only you will understand how much you meant to me. You were an amazing father, I think we would all agree. A life which was cut short. But even in that short time, the quality of the relationships you built with people is second to none. You were an amazing father. Thank you, I love you, and I will miss you, but never forget you. Proud to be your son.
So sorry for your loss. I worked with Joe many years ago. He was always kind to me. He touched so many souls who will always remember him for his kindness.
