James "Ted" Edward Steventon

Ted passed away after a lengthy journey through the trials of Alzheimer’s disease, his wife of 58 years at his bedside. He was 82.
Ted is lovingly remembered by his adoring wife of 58 years, Sylvia; son, Rod (Christine); daughter, Lori (David); grandchildren, Sydney, Victoria, Peter, and Kendra. Ted is also survived by his brother, Jack Steventon; his brother-in-laws, Harold Carr and Dr. Gordan Freeman; along with many nieces and nephews. Ted was predeceased by his father, Cyril; mother, Margaret; sister, Doreen; and sister in-law, Beverley.
Ted was active throughout his life. He enjoyed the cottage “up north” most of his summers. He loved fishing and boating and many other summer and winter sports. Ted graduated from the Electrical Engineering Technology program at SAIT in 1961. During his time at SAIT he met a nursing student Sylvia, and married in Calgary in 1962. Ted and Syl began their married life in Drumheller, Alberta where Ted was employed by Canadian Utilities. They had their first of two children, Rod. Ted was then transferred to Vegreville, Alberta where they welcomed their second beautiful child, Lori. In 1974 Ted and his family moved back to Calgary. There he was employed at the City of Calgary Electric System, now Enmax. On the day he retired he wore his tuxedo!
Ted was Past Master of Canada Lodge #165 AF&AM and Past Patron of Friendship Chapter #125, OES, and long-time member of the McDougall United Church.
While Ted was a quiet man by nature, he very much enjoyed being with friends and loved ones. Always there with “that smile” to lend a hand. He always got things done.
He will be remembered for his calm demeaner and quiet mischief. Ted loved life!
The family would like to thank the staff at Bethany-Riverview, especially 3 south – Prairie Sky. We appreciate all of the kindness extended to us over Ted’s two year stay.

Sylvia and family, Sorry to hear of Ted’s sad news. I’ll remember Ted as a trusted coworker with the Electric System, and a valued member of the curling team, yes we enjoyed the odd beverage after curling accompanied with Ted’s famous deer sausage several times. Although I didn’t accompany him on his hunting and fishing trips as several of his coworkers and friends did. I did enjoy his calm manner on the golf course and played several games with him over the years. In later years we enjoyed many a chat with coworkers at the “coffee mornings” sharing tales, Goodbye my freind.
I've known Ted since the 70's when he joined the Electric System and we worked on the same substation crew. We both always had fun camping with Ted and Sylvia on the group camps. After retirement I looked forward to coffee with Ted and a few others where the world's problems were solved. We'll miss him.
Sylvia. My sincerest condolences to you and family on your loss. I will always have great memories of Ted from our times together in Canada lodge. He will be missed by all and may he rest in peace.
Dear Sylvia Rob,Lori and family Farewell to a wonderful friend and neighbor . Ted lived his life to the fullest arm in arm with his loving wife Syl. It’s so difficult to pick all the special times since 1974. Living next door . So many get together filled with laughter, getting together with all the neighbour .The community hall became our social area . Remembering the dances and of course the famous hockey game ,dressing up as a pretty cute cheer leader. AS we watched our children grow we all started camping together. Ted made sure The fire and hot dog sticks were ready and sometimes he would share his Dear Sausage yum yum . For me I think my most wonderful memories were at the cabin. Ted taught me to fish which thrilled SYL as she could read her book and enjoy the boat ride . I saw my first northern lights dancing over the entire sky’s . Walking to the pub swimming. and again having a fire sharing time with my oldest friends. Sending my love

As one of Bill's oldest friends, it only made sense that he was forever "Uncle" Ted to me. I will always remember Uncle Ted as the man with the calm tone and gentle hand, who spoke to me with kindness and respect. I enjoyed his great sense of humour and playful nature. I hope that he and Bill are relaxing in comfort now, free from pain and distress, poking one another with stories of the old days or their grand kids' accomplishments. Our long time friend will not be forgotten. Our camping, fishing, hunting, and golfing adventures were all enjoyed. His pleasant smile and sense of humour were appreciated by all. His family was the most important thing to Ted and to them we send our heart felt condolences. He was a good friend and will be missed.

Sylvia, please accept my sincere sympathy to you and your family. Over the years I shared many a laugh with you & Ted. I'll always remember Ted at Nile pies putting them in tins or crimping - he always said "slow & steady wins the race" and he was right!
Deepest Sympathy Sylvia! You have been such a wonderful soul mate to Ted through this long journey. I have fond memories of visiting you both at SHC, then Rocky and finally had the final pleasure at Bethany Riverside. It always made my day to spend time with you both. We were so sorry to learn that this loved and and treasured man has passed on. Over the years our friend Lori often spoke of her father Ted and shared stories of what he said or what they did together. Most often they made us smile as we envisioned their outings. That is the lineman that clambered up a long ladder to trim my trees when I was too chicken. Well he was a hockey linesman as well. 3 cheers for Ted!!

We are so sorry for your family’s loss, but know that Ted has gone to meet his Heavenly Father and will find himself welcomed with open arms. We loved our time spent with Ted, and have been a part of his mischievousness at least once. We will remember him with smiles and hope that those smiles will help you all to remember him with light hearts too.
