Margaret Elizabeth Topping
December 27th, 2020
Margaret Elizabeth Topping (nee Feist)
Margaret went peacefully to meet Christ on Sunday, December 27, 2020 with her husband at her side. She was born April 2, 1929 on a beautiful farm near Reward, Saskatchewan. Margaret was the daughter of Odelia and Nick Feist with 5 sisters and 4 brothers.
She shared a wonderful marriage with her best friend of 50 years, Neil, who is left to mourn her passing along with her sister, Minette; her brothers, Linus and John; many nieces and nephews, and many close friends and former students.
Margaret's Dad sent his daughters to Ursuline Boarding School in Prelate, Sask. to get their education. She served in the Ursuline Order for 23 years and taught in many small towns in Sask. and in Viscount, Ab.; often teaching all subjects to five grades. After leaving the community, she finished her Bachelor of Education and received a scholarship to complete her Masters at the University of Alberta.
She came to Calgary and taught at St. Francis & Bishop Carroll High Schools until retiring in 1986. She loved her students and to the end kept in touch with and was friends with many students having coached Volleyball and Debate with winning teams at the Provincial level.
In retirement she volunteered at Church and was active in Speech and Debate. She served as President of the Honorary Society of Canadian College of Teachers and loved her Golf at Pinebrook Golf Course and Bridge at many institutions.
Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, a funeral will not be held. In her memory, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.

Having known her since 1950 there are a lot of stories to recall but now they are just good memories. As a boarder at the same school she went to bat for me several times. She won and I was there until after graduating in 1952. Thanks to Margaret. We have kept contact over many years . I taught her how to play Bridge and she kept it up until a short time ago. Now may she rest in peace and be assured that the unfinished will be well taken care of by Neil.

Dear Neil I am so sorry to hear of Margaret's passing. I have so many fond memories of Margaret as we started teaching at Bishop Carroll the same year. She and I were 2 of five new teachers to the school who participated in several after hour orientation meetings. She was even the teacher advisor of my younger brother who attended Bishop Carroll during his graduating year. I will particularly remember her for the special relationships she developed with so many of her students. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time. Susan Marasco
A caring teacher and a compassionate person, who lives in the memories of the students she taught. She touched many and brought joy to the world. She was a kind reflection of Christ.
Margaret was a classy lady to say the least. I taught with her at Bishop Carroll and admired her as a person and teacher.
