GOERZEN, Erna
January 11, 1928 - December 10, 2021
Erna (Warkentin) Goerzen was born in Munson, Alberta, January 11, 1928, to Herman and Katharina Warkentin, who had just come to Canada from the Mennonite Colonies in Russia.
Erna attended school in Munson, winning the Governor General's award in Grade nine. At Menno Bible Institute (Didsbury) she furthered her studies and added teaching skills. It was there she met the love of her life, Henry Goerzen. On November 2, 1952, they held their wedding at Munson in the small family home, under crisp clear skies.
After a brief time in East Coulee (Drumheller), Henry and Erna moved to the farm east of Carstairs, where together they raised their family of six. Later in retirement they moved west of Didsbury, then into Didsbury where their final home was Aspen Ridge Lodge. Erna passed away peacefully December 10, 2021, at the age of 93 years.
Erna treasured her walk in faith as evidenced in her modelling to family and engagement in church life. She valued her place as partner in the farm. Her love of family resulted in the writing of her family history book, “Frintschoft”.
Erna was predeceased by her parents, Herman and Katharina Warkentin; siblings, Jake (Elsie), Anneki, Gerhard, and Mary; sister-in-law, Mary; husband, Henry Goerzen (2019); son, Martin (1955); and daughter, Juanita (2012). She is survived by her brother, Abe (Muriel) Warkentin; children, Irene (Bob) Crosland, Eric (Rose) Goerzen, Gerald Thiessen, Erna (Eric Rose) Regehr and Albert (Debbie) Goerzen; as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
