Irma Nilsson
August 17, 1925 – July 8, 2021
It is with great sadness we announce that Irma passed away comfortably and peacefully in her Calgary care home o n Thursday, July 8, 2021. She was born in Coleman, Alberta, but spent most of her life in Lethbridge. Irma was very active raising her family, golfing, curling, bowling, gardening, playing the organ and piano, travelling and being a very accomplished bridge player. Endowed with a great sense of humour, she was generous to all and well respected in the community. We will all miss her very much!
She will be lovingly remembered by her son, Dave Shaw and his wife Louise; Tim’s wife, Betty; Irma’s grandchildren, Allison (Neil), Eric (Katherine), Taylor (Sarah), Elise (Jay); as well as Irma’s 8 great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her first husband, Norris Shaw in 1967; by her second husband, Byron Nilsson in 2013; and her oldest son, Tim Shaw, in 2020.
Please join us in a Celebration of Irma’s Life at Paradise Canyon Golf Course, 185 Canyon Blvd W, Lethbridge, AB, on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at 1:30 pm.
In lieu of flowers, please feel free to send a donation to the Brenda Strafford Foundation, which operates the seniors care facility that treated Mom so well over the past few months.

Dave and Family I was sad to see that Your Mom and Tim had both passed away! I knew your Mom for many years as an active member at Henderson Lake Golf Club! We enjoyed golfing together on Ladies Day and the fun times after the game! I would chat about Tim as we went to school together! She was always so proud of her two sons! My condolences to you as this has been a very difficult year for you all. Sincerely, Sue Meredith
Sincere condolences to all of Irma's family. My family met Irma when she married Byron, my dad's cousin. She was a gracious and stylish lady who loved to visit.
What a lovely tribute to Irma. I am happy that I had the chance to meet her on a couple of occasions when she was visiting Vancouver. It was quite a few years ago but I have a strong recollection of liking her and that she was a very vibrant and warm person. She will surely be missed by her family. My condolences to all of you. Love Sue
To the family of Irma, Dave & Family, My sincere condolences on the passing of your mother, grandmother and great grandmother. I was very surprised to learn of Tim's passing as was Reg Dawson. I have very fond memories of Irma and Byron being formidable opponents at the duplicate bridge club but also how accepting and helpful they were to young university "smart-asses". Irma was one of the most enjoyable and knowledgeable ladies to play bridge against and the fact that she did not look down at us even though she was an accomplished Life Master will be something I will always remember. I hope I can escape from work for a short time on Wed. and would love to reminisce with Dave about our misspent youth. Again my sincere condolences.
To Dave, Louise, Taylor, Elise, Taylor and Jay, and the rest of the family...my sincere condolences to you all. Although I never met Irma in person, I've heard a lot about her over the years and know she will be missed dearly by all. With heartfelt sympathy, Stan Clark
