It is with immense sorrow we announce that Barry, beloved husband of Linda LaRose, and father of their son, Chris Polowick, passed away at the age of 69 on Monday, February 1, 2021.
Barry grew up in Regina, where friends and cousins were close at hand to play nightly hide-and-seek in the summer, play in the ‘Ozarks’, a nearby field, pile in a car with cousins for trips to the beach, and play pickup games and join organized sports. Barry attended the Universities of Regina and Saskatchewan (Saskatoon) before moving to Calgary in 1973 to be near his future wife. They spent weekends camping, hiking, canoeing and cross-country skiing with friends.
Barry was a voracious reader (whether in his favourite chair or on a Mexican beach). He was happiest at home with Linda & Chris, cooking traditional dishes, watching basketball and football. He had a special love of football dating back to his quarterback days, first in high school, and then for three seasons with the Regina Rams, including the 1970 National Championship team. He’s still on record for a Highest Rating Game and Highest Completion Percentage, August 15, 1970, with 17 of 21 passes completed. Barry’s most cherished role, though, was as a father. He delighted in infant Chris, welcomed his preschool interest in building things in the workshop, read aloud the classics while he played with Lego, cheered him on in sports and academics, while never pressuring to perform.
Barry is lovingly remembered by his sister, Patti Polowick; brothers-in-law, Al Ireland, Bob McCrank and Norman Gentes; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Alex and Doris Polowick; sister, Denise McCrank; sister-in-law, Mary Jane Gentes; nephew, Mark Gentes; and niece, Rachelle Adams.
A Celebration of Barry’s Life will be held at a later date. Thank you to family and friends for all the support during Barry’s illness, and since.

i've just heard of Barry's passing and am deeply saddened, my sincerest condolences. I played football with the Regina Rams as an offensive lineman and Barry was my QB. His presence in the huddle was truly calming and always rang with confidence,he got it done. Thanks for the memories Barry.

Dear linda and Chris, We didn’t have the opportunity to get to know Barry as much as we would have liked but we remember meeting him at jubilations one night. It would have been nice to have had more time to get to hear of Barry’s fascinating life experiences. Love to you both. From your dear friends pat and hap.
So sorry to read today of Barry's passing, too soon I am sure. Barry and I worked together at Woodward's food floor for quite a few years and I always enjoyed his company and of course we were both Sask. boys so we had that in common. And as you mentioned I do remember Barry reading a lot on his breaks, etc. All the best to you and your family. Barry will be missed.
