Quiring, Abram

July 28, 1929 - October 17, 2021

Abe Quiring passed away on Sunday, October 17, 2021, at the age of 92 years. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 68 years, Anne, of Calgary; his children, Ron Quiring (Betty), of Calgary; Ben Quiring (Donna), of Calgary; and Judy Fitch (Garry), of Fredericton, NB. Also, very much loved by his grandchildren Lisa Dyck (Matt), Traci Letkeman (Donovan), Jaron Fitch (Natascha), Ryan Quiring (Mary), and Adrienne Perrin (Andrew). He was also blessed with 9 great grandchildren, Joel, Luke, Silas, Jacob, Seth, Aeris, Emmy, Alister, and Cru. He is survived by siblings, Alfred, Agatha, Bertha and Esther. Abe was predeceased by his parents, George and Anna Quiring, and his siblings Annie, George, Lydia, and Ted.

Abe was born in Namaka, Alberta, and received his initial schooling in a one-room schoolhouse, and then his high school in Coaldale, Alberta. Feeling the call to church ministry, he then attended Mennonite Brethren Bible College for his post-secondary education. Upon graduation, he served his first church as pastor in Horndean, Manitoba, followed by churches in Carman and Winnipeg, Manitoba, Virgil, Ontario, and finally Calgary, Alberta. After his time in Virgil, he also spent a few years in radio ministry with Mennonite Brethren Communications in Winnipeg.

Abe spent 40 years in church ministry and relied on the strength and support of Anne through these years. Retirement from formal ministry also allowed Abe and Anne to spend 6 months in a volunteer capacity at a church in Germany. Abe enjoyed his retirement years and was quite active in woodworking and restoring antique tractors. These years allowed Abe to participate in activities which his busy pastoral career hadn't allowed. A memorable trip with some of his siblings took him back to the Ukraine, where he was able to see the birthplace of his mother.

In memory of Abe Quiring, donations can be made to Mennonite Central Committee (MCC), 210, 2946 - 32 St NE, Calgary, AB T1Y 6J7, or Habitat for Humanity, 7291 – 11 Street SE, Calgary, Alberta, T2H 2S1.

A Memorial Service will be held at Dalhousie Community Church, 5511 Baroc Road NW, Calgary, AB, T3A 4R1, on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at 2:00 PM.
