Messages:

I was so sad to learn just now of Floyd's passing. Like Glenn Weber above, I knew Floyd from school in Carstairs. I doubt anyone ever thought of Floyd as other than a good and kind soul. I'm sure he was a good and kind husband, father, and grandfather, and I'm very sorry for your loss.

My relationship with Floyd goes back to our youth and attending the same public school together in Carstairs, Alberta. I was in the same grade level with older brother Bernie for all of our primary school years from grade 1 thru grade 12, which, from my perspective, resulted in Floyd wearing the hat of “younger brother”. It was not until our Junior and High School years when Floyd was no longer just the “younger brother” but now became a legitimate member of the basketball team we all played on. This included practice sessions, home games, away games and tournaments. Unfortunately, Floyd was not the recipient of towering height and not being as tall as some of the other players on the team, it inevitably meant that he probably spent more time on the bench than he did on the floor and more time on the bench than he probably would have preferred. Regardless, I remember him always eager to give it his all. From what Bernie shared with me, it sounds like when he was faced with an adversary like cancer, Floyd fought a courageous battle and once again, gave it his all. Some of the diseases we are confronted with in life are unrelenting and as humans we each possess only so much strength for the fight. My condolences to the immediate family, the extended family and also to the many personal friends who graced Floyd’s life.
