It is with heavy hearts that the family of Mel Crothers announces his unexpected but peaceful passing at the age of 75. We wish to thank the doctors and nurses at the Foothills Hospital for their compassionate care of our beloved husband, father and grandfather.
Mel will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 40 years, Pat Crothers; his daughters, Kathy (Joel) Cordes of Lethbridge and Karen (Doug) Strand of Airdrie; his grandchildren, Owen Cordes, Wyatt Cordes, Morgan Strand, Raelyn Strand and Grant Strand; his sister, Rosemary (Sam) Anderson; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Mel will be remembered for his high moral ethics, generosity, sense of humour and approachability. Born in N. Ireland, his family immigrated to Canada when he was 7 years old. He had an extraordinary career ranging from coach driver to tour escort, travel agency owner, rodeo photographer, airline sales as a VP in both passenger and cargo, Tour Operator, Real Estate Broker and Councillor for the Town of Didsbury.

Jill and I met Mel and Pat about 40 years ago, in the airline industry, and have been friends ever since. Many memories spent together traveling and camping. We were fortunate to have just spent and evening together sharing stories, talking about some of our old tales and crazy events. We will miss Mel's Humor, wisdom and most of all his friendship. You will be missed our friend. To Pat and family our deepest condolences. Our hearts are with you. Jill and Alan
I am deeply sorrowed t learn of Mel's sudden passing...my heart goes out to Pat and family. Mel was "one of a kind". We went as far back as PWA days, Signature Vacations and Harmony Airways. He influenced the lives of many in a positive manner, mine included. He was a dear friend and will be sorely missed. Love.....L
Mel’s commitment and wisdom was appreciated on council and MPC, and I am proud to call him my friend. He will be sorely missed. My sincere sympathy to Pat and all the family. Dorothy Moore
We were blessed to have met Pat and Mel back in 2014.
Mel treated each of us with respect, humour, and interest. Always a twinkle in his eye when he teased, always a moment to chat. We loved his pop ins. He would remember details about our daily lives to ask that other people would have long forgot because he genuinely cared. We are missing him dearly. He was so genuine. Pat, we send you all of our love.
Wonderful memories of Mr Crothers my heart ♥️ goes out to Pat and Katherine and Karen
Mel was one of the greatest, true gentlemen I have ever had the privilege of knowing. From our many conversation about history, current events or just sharing a joke, he will be missed daily.
We met Mel the first day we arrived at our new home in Westcott; he walked over to welcome us to the neighborhood. Ever since, he has been a wonderful friend, willing to help us and our grown children with anything we needed. Mel and Pat have been such great friends and we will miss him so much. We look forward to seeing him again in heaven.
You know that our hearts are with you and the family. God bless.
I am very sorry to hear of Mel’s passing. He was a great man, and wonderful to work for. Hugs to you all. ❤️
