DIEGEL, Larry Ivan
June 7, 2022
Our world lost a remarkable man on Tuesday, June 7th, 2022. Larry is a new star in the sky as he has gone home to be with his devoted parents, Ivan and Gerda Diegel.
A machinist by trade, his joy in making items with precision and working with people merged in his second career with Lee Valley Tools. He enjoyed sharing his skills and knowledge, helping people's problems, and always learning new things.
Born and raised in Calgary, he and his wife, Leslie AnnE, moved to Bergen in 2015 when he was blessed with early retirement. He was in his element! Coffee and naps on the deck, caring for his banditry of chickadees, like his Dad — hand feeding squirrels, and tranquil sunsets ending each day. He built a small shop and began puttering in earnest. A 2017 move to a small acreage near Sundre came with his dream shop.
Along with Leslie AnnE, he leaves his in-laws, Joan and Art Jorgenson; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Jacquie (Tom) Dipple, Jeffrey Jorgenson, and Karen Jorgenson (George). An only child, his extended family is huge! Remaining are uncle, Robert (Pearl) Greig; many cousins, countless nieces and nephews, and now their children, as well as cherished friends worldwide. Two young men held special places in his heart, Godson, Keal Kaminski; and nephew, William Jorgenson.
Larry loved life. He loved deeply and truly. He looked for meaning in his life through his faith and strong values. A light of happiness, he had deep memories and hurts that began to surface after his two MIs.
Doctors, hospital staff, and counsellors always treated him with care and respect so he could return home. Thank you♥. The Sundre Fire Department, EMS, and the Sundre doctors and nurses gave Larry their very best on June 7th. Larry fought his hardest, but his heart was not able to.
In Larry's honour, please consider donations to the Sundre Hospital Futures. Online: https://www.sundrehospitalfutures.com; by mail: Sundre Hospital Futures, Bag 3, 709 – 1 St NE, Sundre, AB T0M 1X0.
Details of a celebration of his life will follow.
Rest peacefully, my Larry, my hero. My heart is yours forever. ♥

Dear Leslie. I am so sorry to hear of your loss and a huge loss it is. Larry was such a wonderful guy and the two of you were such a wonderful couple. I have so many fond memories and, of course, he was one of my favourite people to dance with when we had the opportunity at all the functions we shared. I always think of you on your birthday and have been thinking of you a lot these days, hoping you are doing alright during this very sad time. Our deepest condolences to you and your family.
