DODD, Terrance Allan

May 7, 1933 – February 13, 2022

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Terry Dodd of Olds AB on Sunday, February 13, 2022, at the age of 88.  Terry was born in Olds where he lived his entire life.  When he finished school, he traveled to Europe by ship visiting many countries and was always happy to show his family the films and many pictures he took of his adventures.

He proudly served his country joining the Canadian Army Reserves with the King’s Own Calgary Tank Regiment from 1950-1953 and again from 1958-1968.

He obtained his Journeyman Electrician certificate and he then ran his own business, Dodd’s Electric, for many years.  He also attended evening classes to learn refrigeration mechanics.  When he was done his electrical business, he joined the staff of Olds College as an electrician and worked there until his retirement.

In 1974, he married the love of his life, Pat, taking in her 2 children, Terry and Gail, as his own.  Terry and Pat spent any happy years working hard to maintain their house and garden and enjoyed weekends camping with friends and family.  Once they got their first trailer, there was no stopping them!  They progressed to a motor home and lastly a 5th wheel.  They took the motorhome on many holidays that took them as far north as the Yukon and Alaska and as far south as Jackpot NV plus many point east and west, visiting family and friends.

Terry was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Br. 105, Olds AB.  He held different positions on the executive and received a number of awards including lifetime member and Meritorious Service Award.

On October 17, 2020, Terry was the very proud recipient of a Quilt of Valour honouring his service to his country!

He proudly served his community for 44 years as a member of the Olds Volunteer Fire Department attaining the rank of Fire Chief and also received many awards, the most prestigious being the Award of Fire Services Exemplary Service Medal in 1986 for 30 years of service at the rank of fire chief and then again for 40 years of service at the rank of tactical officer.

Terry was predeceased by his wife Pat in 2020, his parents Alfred and Elizabeth and his brother Lawry and sister-in-law Aileen.  He is survived by his brother Art and his wife Alice, 2 step-children Terry Shepherd of Olds AB and step-daughter Gail (Chuck) Akister of Moose Jaw SK, 2 grandchildren Dustin (Jessica Ward) Shepherd and Dawn (Robin) Austin as well as 3 great-grandchildren Blakely, Jacob and Ryder.  He is also survived by sister-in-law Gerry Grabher of Westlock AB and several nieces and nephews.

At Terry’s request, there will be no funeral, only a private family service to be held at a later date.  If desired, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion, Br. 105, for the Cross of Sacrifice, 5241 – 46 St. Olds AB, T4H 1H5.

We would like to thank the staff at Season’s Sunrise in Olds, Olds Hospital and Care Centre, Olds Home Care as well as the physicians and staff at Wildrose Medical Centre for the wonderful care our dad received over the last few years, making his passage to be with his beloved wife Pat again, as comfortable as possible.
