FOX, Marjorie Dorothy (nee Huston)
January 1, 1925- March 31, 2022
Marj was born January 1, 1925, in Drumheller, Alberta and passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 31, 2022, at the age of 97 years in the Foothills Hospital, Calgary Alberta.
Marj was the second of five Huston girls born to Miller and Jane Huston. After leaving Drumheller they had residences in Swallwell and Allingham AB, south of Torrington, where her dad, Miller Huston ran the UGG Elevator. It is here that she attended the rural school close to Keivers Lake. She had fond memories of walking to school with her sisters along the railway tracks and across pasture fields.
In 1938 Miller was transferred to Crossfield to operate the UGG elevator and a much larger house was provided. Here the girls were able to get their high school education. Upon graduation Marj attended Olds College taking Home Economics.
Marj and Mervin were married January 23, 1945, in the Central United Church downtown Calgary. Their first year they resided in the 2A Motel in Crossfield while building a small home on the farm. She resided on the farm for 64 years. She loved the farm life and always worked alongside Mervin and the boys. She loved gardening and always grew red geraniums in her front flower bed. She also loved to keep track of the birds returning in the spring. Marj was involved with Crossfield Boy Scouts, Farm Women of Alberta and the Crossfield Home & School Association. She was also a member of the Crossfield United Church. Marj was a proud Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and always took interest in what everyone else was doing. In 2009 she moved into the Rocky View Lodge in Crossfield.
Marj enjoyed her travels with Mervin to Japan, England, Hawaii, and the winters in Hemet, CA.
Marj is survived by her son, Bryan (Judy) of Crossfield, AB, and their children Myles (Trena) Fox of Gravelbourg, SK (great grandchildren Cole, CharliAnn, Makenna); Kyle (Kimberley) Fox of Crossfield, AB (great grandsons Houston, Jaxon); Jillian (Mitchell) Bryanton of Wheatley River, PEI (great granddaughters Cora, Paige); Grandchildren Brett (Maureen) Fox of Lethbridge, AB (great granddaughters Britney, Kelly); Jan (Kurt) Ginther of Innisfail, AB (great grandsons Evan, Hayden, Mick); Mark Fox (Jocelyn Biswanger) of Airdrie, AB; Angie Fox, Crossfield, AB (great grandchildren Tristen and Cheyenne), and by many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her loving husband, Mervin in 2002; sonS, Larry Fox (2003) and Wayne Fox (2013); grandson-in-law, Tyler Delorme (2021); sisters Marion, Betty, Alice, and Mickey.
Following Marj’s wishes a family Celebration of Life will be held Friday, April 8th, 2022, in the Crossfield United Church.
The Fox family would like to thank all the staff at the Rocky View Lodge in Crossfield where Marj enjoyed 13 years.
If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made in Marj’s memory to a charity of your choice.
Funeral services were provided by Alternatives Funeral & Cremation Services, Airdrie, AB.
