Florence Ethel Kenyon

April 30th, 1922 ~ May 21st, 2022

KENYON, Florence E. (née Knock)

April 30, 1922 – May 21, 2022

Florence (Flo) Kenyon of Airdrie, AB, passed away peacefully and without pain in the quiet hours of Saturday, May 21, 2022 surrounded in love by her older son Alan and daughter-in-law, Mary Helen, at the remarkable age of 100.

The only one of her siblings to be born in Canada, Flo was born and raised in Calgary, and then raised her own family there before spending her later years, first in Crossfield and then in Airdrie, under the watchful care of her son, Alan.

To her family, she was “Ma,” “Mom,” “Auntie Flo,” “Grandma” and “Nana.” For the countless mail carriers, Safeway bakery workers, bank tellers, bus drivers, cashiers and bag boys she would instantly befriend and endear herself to, becoming a trusted confidante with open access to personal details of their family lives, she was simply, “Mrs. Kenyon” or “Flo.”

She was a lover of music and of her cherished Calgary Flames, and while normally content to sit quietly among the boisterous men in her family, only her Flames could get her to her feet yelling in joy or frustration at the television.

In addition to her son and daughter-in-law, Flo is lovingly remembered by grandchildren, David (Jason), Jennifer (Mark), Dan (Lara), Darren (Amanda); and great-grandchildren, Jorja, Riley, Olivia, Addy, Evanie, and Noa. Florence is predeceased by her husband of  55 years, George (2001); and her younger son, Gord (Linda) (2022). The youngest of four children, Flo is also predeceased by her parents, Robert and Sophie Knock; sister, Alice; and brothers Robert (“Bob”) and Albert (“Bert”).

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Bethany Airdrie, 1736 – 1 Avenue NW, Airdrie, AB, T4B 2C4, the long-term care facility that treated our mother and grandmother with unlimited care, consideration and respect in the final years of her life.

There will be no service (Flo would have hated the attention), but rest assured her loving family will be sharing stories of her selflessness, silliness and tenacity for years to come.
