Eugene “Gene” passed away on Saturday, September 3, 2022 at South Health Campus at the age of 82. Eugene was born September 21, 1940 to mother, Maria Katherine and father, William MacDonald in Westlock, Alberta .

Eugene was predeceased by both his parents; his wife, June and his best friend, Gordon Hegland in 2019. Gene felt a deep loss without his best friend.

Gene spent most of his adult life working in oil camps as a cook. He loved to cook.

Eugene moved to Champion, Alberta, in 2009. Eventually Gene moved into the Seniors apartment in Champion where he lived out all but the last year of his life. He joined the Champion Seniors Club where he enjoyed many hours of fun and friends playing cribbage.

Gene took sick in 2021. He then moved to the Peter Dawson Lodge in Vulcan Alberta. He enjoyed his stay at the lodge. He often said “the food was great and the company was even better”.

Eugene will be sadly missed by his good friends in Champion and Vulcan. On behalf of these friends I would like to thank the doctors nurses and care staff that took care of Gene while he was in the Vulcan and south health campus hospitals. Your care and compassion he deeply appreciated.

In lieu of flowers, Eugene has asked that donations be made to the Champion Pioneer Club, Box 88, Champion, AB, T0L 0R0.
