Merritt, Lionel “Jack”
May 8, 1943 – July 1, 2022
Jack was born in Pipestone, Manitoba, to Jack and Mabelle Merritt. After leaving school, Jack made his way to Alberta to follow his brother into the pipeline business. He met his wife, Lorena at a bowling alley in Cardston, AB. They had 3 children together and soon settled in Okotoks, AB.
In 1976, Jack lived up to his childhood nickname “Hayseed” and moved to Rolling Hills, where he farmed until his passing. Being truly passionate about his farm, one of Jack’s greatest joys was hooking up his “team” to the wagon, feeding cattle and irrigating the fields, not to mention the many wagon rides for his kids, grand kids, and great grandkids, whom he loved deeply.
Jack was loved by many, and he will be dearly missed. He was predeceased by his parents, Jack and Mabelle, as well as his sisters, Audrey and Sheila. Jack leaves behind many loved ones to remember the great man and cowboy he was.
He is survived by his siblings, Brian (Doreen), Don (June), Sylvia, and Elsie; his three children, Tara, Jack (Belinda), and Kyle (Lisa); grandchildren, Robyn (Troy), Jason (Kim), Naomi (James), Samantha (Jason), and Marcel; and great grandchildren Madison, Brittany, Brooklyn, Taryn, Jason, Nick, Austin, and Anthony.
Enjoy riding with Heaven’s angels, Cowboy.
Jacks Celebration of Life will be held at the Rolling Hills Community Hall in Rolling Hills, AB on Saturday July 23rd, 2022 at 1:00pm – 4:00pm.

I am very sad at the passing of my Uncle Jack. I will miss his wise cracking and funny personality. My thoughts are with my cousins Tara, Jack and Kyle and their families.
Ron and I are so sorry to hear of Jack’s passing. When the pipeline crew came to Tilley in 1964 I had the privilege as a young 15 yr old to babysit for Jack’s little family. As well as many others. Ron worked on that pipeline and our story started that same year. We got to see Jack several times over the years. Always talked pipeline and farming. He was well respected and a friend to so many. Our condolences to all his family members. So sorry that we couldn’t be there to say goodbye. Sincerely Ron and Maureen.
