PERRIER, Evalyn
March 13, 1924 – February 13, 2022
With sad hearts we announce the peaceful passing of Evalyn Perrier (nee MacDonald) on Sunday, February 13, 2022 at the age of 97.
Born on March 13, 1924, in Huntsville Ontario, daughter of Mildred (MacKay) and Collins MacDonald. Evalyn was the oldest of 10 children; survived by her sister Ruth (Ray) Vowels. She had 7 children with her first husband, Fred Broadbent; Sam (Marg) Broadbent, Debbie (Bob) Oke, Myrrl (Nancy) Broadbent, Jim (Susan) Broadbent, Doug (Anna-Mary) Broadbent, Carole Broadbent, and Violet (Abbie) Desjardins. With the marriage of her husband, Orville Perrier, Evalyn’s family of children grew with the addition of 5 step children; Mary Nedrofsky, Marcelle Perrier, Roberta (Ray) Dobson, Paulette (Bill) Quinn, and Lorrette (Brian) Bartlett. She was the proud Grand Mother of many many grandchildren. Evalyn fiercely loved all her family, and believed that family was gained by love, not just blood.
Evalyn was a faithful Christian, hard working, independent, sharp, and very generous. In retirement she and her husband Orville joined the Salvation Army Church where they had several years volunteer coordinating and operating the thrift store and food program. She was a sponsor for Teen Challenge Canada for over 20 years and believed strongly in supporting troubled youth. She grew up through the depression, and was determined that her family would never go without; she consistently helped family members when they fell on hard times. Evalyn was very social and loved playing cards, Yahtzee or any game where she could connect with friends. She was known for her crochet skills making socks and an afghan blanket for every family member, as well as for fundraisers and events. She gave her grandchildren many memories of “Gramma Camp”, sleep overs and beach time.
She will be missed by all her family, her friends at the Rockyview Lodge in Crossfield Alberta where she lived the last 8 years, and by everyone who knew her. A Celebration of Life is scheduled to be held June 18th, 2022 at 1098 Windermere Road, Utterson Ontario.
