REID, Margaret Woods (nee Church)
October 29, 1916 – August 5, 2022
Margie passed away on Friday, August 5, 2022 at the Airdrie Bethany Care Centre which is located on the same quarter section as the rented farm that she came to as the bride of Frank Reid in 1937. She was born in Calgary on October 29, 1916 and raised on the family farm at Balzac. She attended the nearby Buttes School before finishing her education at Crescent Heights High School and Normal School in Calgary while working for her board and room. She then taught in a one room school in Makepeace, Alberta for one year before her marriage. In 1944 the family moved to their own farm on the hill just west of Airdrie.
Margie was predeceased by her husband, Frank; her daughter, Rae and her husband, Stan Bishop; her son, Jim and his wife, Helen; sister, Lois and her husbands, Keith Rosenberger and King Perry; and her sister, Mabel and husband Hugh Bancroft. Also by her in-laws, Margaret and Lorne Clayton, Jean and Bob Nixdorff, and Mary and her husbands, Carsten Jensen and
Jim Engen.
She is survived by her daughter, Peggy and husband Ken Sauter; son, Ken and wife Terry; grandchildren, Tim Bishop (Joyce), Kathy Bishop Miller, Bill Reid (Brandii), Miles Reid (Courtney), Brandon Reid (Anna), Austin Reid (Jeff), and Andrea Reid (Levi); 9 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was a member of the Airdrie Women's Community Club, the Airdrie Over Fifty Club, the Nellie Pole Unit of the UCW, and a 60 year member and past matron of the Starlight Chapter #109 of the Crossfield Eastern Star. Both Frank and Margie were active in the community and the United Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. In later years they were able to winter in Arizona along with many of their friends and neighbours. After Frank’s passing she took a keen interest in genealogy and kept active with her family and friends.
The family would like to thank the staff at Bethany Care as well as Sharan Bennett for the care she received since entering that facility in 2010.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Airdrie United Church on Wednesday, August 10, 2022 at 1:00 pm with Reverend Linda Hunter officiating.
In lieu of flowers, a donation in Margie’s memory can be made to the Bethany Care Foundation, 100, 2915 - 26 Avenue SE, Calgary, AB, T2B 2W6.

Peggy and Ken, Our sincere condolences on the loss of your mother.. Doug and Diana Steele
Ken, Peggy, Bill and families. Your Mom and Grandma lived a very long and until the last few years a wonderful life. She was one of the last old timers of our community and was a wonderful person. You will have many happy memories of good times spent with her. I was sorry I wasn’t able to attend the memorial service as I was away at the time.
As a school friend of her granddaughter, Andrea, I always remember Andrea talking about her grandmother reaching milestone birthdays every year as well, as well as her fashionable tastes for pant suits. I'm saddened to hear the news of her passing, but grateful for the lovely family she raised and legacy she left.
Ken and Peggy, Our sincerest condolences on the passing of your Mother. A life well lived! With best regards, Ernest and Joan
Ken and Peggy, Your mother was for many many years a warm, intelligent, steady and reliable presence in our 'old' Airdrie community. Whenever I talked to her she was always interested and engaging. She has a firm place in my experience of life here. I will cherish her memory. Roger Clayton
