SMITH, Adeline “Della”

December 1, 1934 –  April 26, 2022

Adeline Smith, known to friends and family as Della, passed away on Tuesday, April 26, 2022. Della was born in Calgary in 1934 and in 1937 she moved with her parents and older brother to London, England, where the rest of the family had been born and raised. She lived through the years of the Second World War in Leytonstone. Like many other Londoners, she and the family survived the bombing and hardships of the Blitz. Della and family returned to Calgary in 1948. She attended Balmoral school and Crescent Heights high school. Later, she worked for many years as a customs and excise officer. Della was cheerful, good-natured, and independent. She loved working in her community vegetable garden and was an ardent fan of the Toronto Blue Jays. Her cats, Robin and Snoopy, were much-loved companions. Della lived on her own until she was well into her 80s. In her final years she had the support of her nephew, David Carlisle, and niece Margaret Smith. They greatly miss the loss of “dear old Dell” and will always treasure the time they spent with her.
