Sylvia Daphne English

Sylvia Daphne English passed away on Wednesday, September 22, 2021, at her residence in Whitecliff.

She is survived by her spouse, Tom; son, Dale (Jenny); daughter, Sharon (Peter) Roberts.

She was predeceased by her parents, siblings and her eldest son, Stephen.

Sylvia was born on August 24, 1936 in Gorakhpur India. She moved to Coventry, England as a young child with her family - parents Leslie and Margaret Oliver, and older siblings, Eileen, Douglas and Winston. Coventry was always “home” in her heart. Sylvia was a young bride at 18 when she married Tom and they moved to Canada when Tom joined the Canadian Armed Forces. She and Tom have 3 children, Stephen, Dale and Sharon.

When she was in her 30’s, Sylvia returned to school to upgrade her education and continued on to graduate from the University of Calgary with a bachelor of Social Work. She worked for Alberta Family Social Services until her retirement in 1993. When she retired, Sylvia opened a small antique booth in the crossroads market. This gave her the opportunity to feed her passion for antiquing and her quest to forge friendships with like-minded people.

In 2012, Sylvia moved to BC to escape the Calgary winters and to live closer to her daughter.

Sylvia had a sharp sense of humour and enjoyed teasing people. She loved warm weather, all kinds of music, dancing, shopping at thrift stores, nice clothing, inappropriate shoes, jewelry, Indian food, sugary sweets, animals (especially dogs), and most of all, loved her family.

A private family Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to your local animal shelter.
