Paul Killoh

Tragedy struck on the afternoon of September 22nd, 2021. Paul was in a fatal car crash on his way home from work. Five minutes before the crash Paul texted his wife Nicole to tell her he was on his way home and he wanted to go for a skateboard ride with their 10 month old son Owen. Owen would laugh as his Daddy skateboarded while Nicole pushed him in his stroller.

Growing up Paul was always an easy-going child happily going with the flow, loving everyone and being with family. He spent the summers on Papa Georgie’s boat, the bond that he had with his grandparents was a very special one. Much like his relationship with all his family. Green Lake was his favourite place and took any opportunity he could to go there, spending quality time with his Dad, Grandma, and the rest of the family. From a very young age Paul enjoyed being outside and delighted in feeding the chickadees and the squirrels. Paul’s empathy for all living creatures was intense. Over the years, he tried to rescue mice, a seagull and a deer that had been hit by a car. Paul loved bike riding and played on both soccer and baseball teams. He spent his growing up years in Abbotsford and Burnaby making lasting friendships along the way.

Paul deeply respected and looked up to his Mom and Dad and when Paul took the role of a Dad himself his Mom and Dad were so proud of Paul.

Over the years, Paul’s love of the outdoors deepened and he liked nothing better than to go hiking and camping with Nicole and Owen. They loved spotting all kinds of wildlife and finding waterfalls together. Sitting around the campfire, watching the stars, and recently spotting a moose with Owen were some of his favourite moments.

Paul and Nicole packed a lot of living into a few short years. They saved and made a trip to Thailand where Paul proposed to Nicole. They were the perfect couple together always bringing out the best in each other. They saved enough money to put a down payment on their townhouse and when COVID hit they adjusted their plans for a wedding and had a ceremony with their best friends at one of their favourite waterfalls. The most important thing to both of them was that together they were committing to a life-long relationship. When making his promise to Nicole on their wedding day Paul vows included promising to always be by Nicole’s side for the good, the bad and the “hangry” times and to love and cherish her, to be loyal, true and to always allow room for them to grow. These are examples of the honourable respectful man that he was.

Paul loved nothing more than being Owen’s Dad. From the cuddles, bedtime stories, bath tub swimming lessons, and all the dirty diapers. He was happy to do it all for his son. One of their traditions every Saturday was to go on a family outing, whether that be a walk or a hike it was always an adventure.

Paul enjoyed video gaming with his buddies and a good game of crib with his Dad and family. Paul was the type of friend everyone deserves, and he would take the shirt off his back for you if you needed it.

Paul worked hard at his job at Dynamic Architectural Windows and Doors working his way up to being a team lead and he became the first aid attendant at the plant. With his calm, respectful manner, Paul was the right person to take on the role of shop steward.

Here are some heartfelt words from one of Paul’s coworkers. “When I was a team member Paul took care of me, but he took care of all his guys. While treating guys for first aid he knew how to lighten the mood no matter the severity while proficiently treating everyone time and again. I am wiser for knowing Paul as a co- worker and a friend. We all must carry on now, remembering how he bettered us, and speaking those truths about how he lived. Since the accident I find myself reminding everyone to be patient with themselves and others.”

Paul leaves behind a community of family, friends and co-workers he cared for and who cared deeply for him. Paul was an amazing, caring young man, and a devoted and beloved husband, father, son, grandson, nephew and cousin. He leaves a big hole in all of our lives and we will all miss him deeply.
