Alice Leokadia Kurkiewicz

It is with broken hearts we say farewell to our mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, who at 100 years old, entered into God’s presence at West Shore Laylum on Thursday, February 11, 2021.
Born in Siemiatkowo, Poland to Christian and Wanda Paulus, she was 1 of 12 children. She later married Waclaw Kurkiewicz on June 19, 1945, with whom she had her 3 children, Stanley, Andrew & Alice. In April 1963, she would arrive in Canada on Good Friday, immigrating to this country with her children. Alice’s greatest inspiration in her life was her father, a strong Christian and a good example of a faithful servant of God. Her focus was always on her children as she unconditionally loved her family. Alice enjoyed working in the garden and volunteering in her church. Throughout her entire life, she held an unwavering faith in God which she shared with those around her.
Alice is survived by her sister Elizabeth Rein, and her children Stan (Lilka), Andy (Jennifer), and Alice (Bill), along with her 7 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces & nephews. Her family would like to thank the amazing staff at West Shore Laylum for the love and care they have shown her over the years.
There will not be a service with friends & family at this time, and we hope to have a Celebration of Life service in the future when it is safe for all of her loved ones to come together to honour her. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to the Alzheimer Society of BC or a charity of your choice. We love you Mom and you will be in our hearts forever.

I have known Alice a very long time. She was practically family. Along with Alice I got to know her family. Alice was one of the cutest grandma at Westshore Laylum. My heart goes out to your whole family during this difficult time. The love that your Mom gave and that you all returned manyfold won't diminish with her passing, it will remain as her enduring legacy. May you find peace and joy in her memory.
Memories I remember that day the family dropped in Winnipeg when you first came from Poland. I was only 11. Over the years, I remember the happiness that was in my parents voices when I listened to the latest news from Vancouver and your family. I will always remember Alices sincerity and joy for everything and everyone around her. What an amazing person!
She was a very Dear Aunt and a source of wonderful memories. A shining example of God's love, grace and mercy! Our condolences to all the family at this sad time.

So many memories of Tante Lodja were knit into my childhood memories. Her love for her family and her Saviour was fierce. Her perseverance and faithfulness accomplished so many rewards visible here, and many not yet visible to us. Rejoicing in her reaching that final destination.
