Reid Ferguson McDonald
June 25th, 1941 ~ January 3rd, 2025
Surrounded by his family and beloved wife, Jenny, Reid Ferguson McDonald passed away peacefully on January 3rd, 2025, at the age of 83. He was a devoted husband for 62 years, a proud father to four children, a loving grandfather to seven, and a very cherished friend to many.
Born on June 25, 1941, in Abbotsford, BC, Reid graduated from Abbotsford High School in 1959. After trying his hand at several local jobs, he found his calling as a well-driller, traveling throughout British Columbia and appreciating its breathtaking landscapes. However, his true passion was the land. When the opportunity arose in 1966, Reid and Jenny purchased the family dairy farm and worked hard to balance the challenges of farming with raising a family. Alongside managing the dairy farm, Reid embarked on a new venture in 1987—growing raspberries. He sold the dairy herd in 1998 but continued farming raspberries.
Reid had a passion for soccer and he would never miss his Sunday soccer games with the “Bradner Red Shirts” and later, “Aldergrove United”. A committed community advocate, Reid dedicated countless hours to supporting Aldergrove and helped to establish the “Field of Dreams” soccer pitch at Aldergrove Athletic Park. His efforts created a lasting legacy that significantly enhanced the recreational opportunities for the community he deeply valued.
People were always at the centre of Reid’s life and he had a remarkable ability to make others feel welcome and appreciated. His kindness, generosity, and cheerful demeanour touched everyone he encountered. With his “can-do” attitude, quiet strength, and humble nature, Reid was the pillar of his family and a loyal friend to all. Reid will be greatly missed by those who had the privilege of knowing him.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 15th at 2:00pm at the Bradner Hall, 5305 Bradner Road, Abbotsford, BC, V4X 2P1.
A gentle man and a gentleman, so glad I was a short part of his life, miss you buddy.
