TO KNOW HIM WAS TO LOVE HIMWe celebrate the life of Leonard Raymond DeMelt who died peacefully in North Vancouver, B.C.
He was a loyal champion of men, a mentor, a pioneer, a team player, but the most important things in his life were his family, his beloved pet and many friends.
Len lived 1000 years in his 75 calendar years we had with him because he attracted life with a purpose and intestinal fortitude very few men could replicate.
Len grew up in the small town of Yellowknife as a precocious young man who loved animals and people and had global ambitions to see the world.
In the early years, Len attended the Haileybury School of Mines and received his degree and the
appropriate accreditations to pursue a career as a Mining Engineering Technologist.
After being involved in many mine start-ups and discoveries in North America, Len decided it was time to see the world. So he decided to build his mining empire and legacy in Peru by pioneering and
championing numerous explorations and mining development initiatives in Peru including Norsemont
which now represents 2 % of Peru's GDP.
Len will be deeply missed by all the people he mentored and touched spiritually and emotionally. He is survived by his wife Jean, children Derrick, Stacy and Joshua, his mother Viviene, sisters Hazel and Linda, his grandsons Justin, Tyson, Isaiah and Khourey.

Sad to hear about the loss of a loyal friend and classmate. Len was a true entrepreneur who was never afraid to get his hands dirty. He represented all the best in his chosen field. I always referred to him as "Big Lenny" because he was truly larger than life. RIP old friend!

Only 9 months too late, I guess we got out of touch. It was magic back in 1960 when our families met up in Calgary for the stampede, you down from the Far North and us out from the Coast. We hardly knew we had cousins and there you were. Magic! And Tracy's wedding in Prince George. Everyone had babies who we laid out on the stage of the auditorium where the wedding was held. A wonderful time was had by all. And the one time you came out to visit us in Quebec City, all wonderful memories. Rest in peace. Your memories, you live on. Vern DeMelt, your cousin.
